Restoran Xan Ling @ Segambut

Restoran Xan Ling located at an unlikely location among all the car repairing workshops and used to be a showroom for some wooden furniture which I read from some blogs.

After all the bumpy road navigated by the GPS we reached Restoran Xan Ling.

The restaurant was almost fully occupied when we reached there circa 2pm on Saturday. There was barely any decoration here, pretty rustic and simple with the kitchen located at the back of the dining area.

Some of the the solid and heavy wooden furniture.

Menu banners of their signature dishes named Bak Kut Teh, “Sang Guat” 生骨 Porridge (Pork Ribs), Prawn Noodle, Rice with Preserved Vegetable, Soy Sauce Braised Pork and Chicken Feet, Alkaline Cakes, etc strung across the space.

Fish and Pork Porridge (RM 20.00)

We initially wanna try the “Sang Guat” 生骨 Porridge but that need an advance order at least 1 hour before, so we were had this instead recommended by the staff.

Served in claypot and topped with plenty of spring onion, fried shallot and garlic.

The porridge is more to the Teochew style where rice grains are still whole and more watery, similar to rice mixed in soup. There were decent amount small meat chunks and fish fillet in the pipping hot porridge. Very aromatic from the fried shallot oil and indeed a tummy warmer or comfort food for me.

Braised Pork (RM 11.00)

Also one of their signature, the huge pieces of pork is tender and well-braised in dark soy sauce. Packed with five-spices flavor, this is the best companion to pair with the mild-tasted porridge above.

Choy Sam (RM 8.00)

Crunchy and sweet, love this!

Verdict: There are some dishes I would like to come back for like Rice with Preserved Vegetable, Deep Fried Bean Curd and of course the “Sang Guat” Porridge. I’ll definitely make sure that an advance  ordering is made before I come!
