Ah Wah Chao Mian
I was brought to this “dai chow” restaurant by sis for an early dinner, circa 6pm+ that Saturday. Why so early? Because she waited for 1 hour during her last visit, so lesson learnt 😛
This “restaurant” in the form of pretty shabby shack located along Jalan Ipoh can be easily missed because the signboard is not facing the main road. *miserably* @.@
The shack
Expected the zero decoration and zero ambiance 😛
Hokkien Mee
The thick strands of noodle were well braised in dark aromatic soy sauce. Not too wet or dry, just the way I like it!
Fried Rice Cake (Fried Pek Ger)
The texture of the “Pek Ger” is very much similiar to Shanghainese Nian Gao and Korean’s tteokboki but the cooking method is almost akin to the hokkien style of stir frying. Laden with pork slices, broccoli and prawns with distinctive smell from the Chinese celery.
Fried Rice
Taste was just mediocre but definitely full of “wok hei”.
Other than the above staple food, we also add on some side dishes which are their signature too.
Fried Fish Cake
Compact yet springy texture, yummy~~
Fried Beancurd Sheet Roll (Fried Fu Chuk)
The most raved item by sis and it deserved the enthusiasm! Pipping hot and super crunchy, definitely a step above most others that I’ve tried. Simply out of the world delicious stuff!
Pork Soup
Simple clear soup with mustard greens and pork slices coated with corn flour rendering the slippery texture of the meat. Rustic and very home feel, I adored the lightness of the soup 🙂
Verdict: No frills, cheap and damn good food, I think I’ll be their regular customer soon, not only for the Hokkien Mee but also the amazingly addictive fried fu chuk!
Same row with Maybank Bangunan Lim
Batu 4 1/2, Jalan Ipoh.
I don’t like waiting either. I’d go an hour earlier too if it meant no wait.
but if had late lunch before that sure can’t eat much for an early dinner 🙁
oo… hubby’s favorite noodle! will bring him there… =D
very near only 🙂
How much the fish cake? normally not cheap d..
not me paying this, but won’t be very expensive though~
Yup ..
I use to makan there when I worked in Segambut last time..
what do you think of their food?
We always have dinner super early to avoid the crowds too. Usually finish eating by the time the crowd arrives LOL.
Ya, kids always don’t have patient 🙁
Ooooo this place is still around. This warrants a revisit! Not been there for almost a year plus. Love the hokkien mee and the fish cake the most:D

fried pek ger looks awesomely good. not commonly found in every dai chow shop 🙂
Latest: World Best Sandwich 2012
Ya, seldom can get fried pek ger, a must order if that particular shop is selling~
