Boat Noodle @ Empire Damansara
One of the most trendy food that hits our shore past few months definitely the boat noodle sailed from our neighbour country, Thailand. It is a Thai street food staple originally hawked from small boats on the canals od central Thailand. Although there are quite a number of boat noodle restaurants mushrooming all over the country but I never tried any of them. I’ve passed by Boat Noodle at Empire Damansara for numerous times and there is always a queue waiting at the entrance. Curiosity killed the cat, I always wonder what’s all the hype about however as a mother of an impatient 6 years old kid, it’s impossible for me to join the waiting list =.=”
Thank you for the invitation from Boat Noodle, I finally have chance to sample their food after one year it putting its footprint in Malaysia. I was at Empire Damansara outlet which is the first outlet for the new menu launching a few weeks back. There are 7 new additions to the family which included 2 refreshing ice blended beverages.
Boat Noodle at Empire Damansara has a great easy going vibe in its ambiance with Thai songs played softly at background. The place is airy and receive great illumination from the natural light from outside as well as hanging lighting in the restaurant.
The beverage preparing counter.
Not too much on the decoration but this wall with framed posters certainly a highlight to the whole setting.
As I’ve mentioned earlier, waiting is inevitable during peak hours so there are stools placed at the entrance for the waiting patrons.
I like the rustic wooden tables 🙂
Cha Yen (RM 6.90) & Ice Blended Coconut
The Cha Yen (Thai iced tea) came in a huge cup with adequate sweetness while the new item ice blended coconut was great to pair with the Thai delicacies. Another new beverage is Ice Blended Green Tea.
Thai Fresh Coconut (RM 6.90)
Basically there are two types of soup base for the noodles at Boat Noodle, Ayutthaya and Pathumthani served with either beef or chicken.
Left: Ayutthaya (RM 1.90)
Right: Pathumthani (RM 1.90)
Ayutthaya, the recipe originates from Ayutthaya province near Bangkok. The brownish broth is creamy with a pleasant herbaceous flavor and rather on the salty side.
Pathumthani, made with generous usage of star anise, cinnamon sticks and five spice powder, the broth is as pronounced as it should be. Flavorful, appetizing with tinge of sourish and mild in spiciness which is pretty addictive I would say.
Each bowl consists of a small chunk of glass noodle with a slice of beef or chicken, a beef/chicken ball served with some chopped water spinach stalk, spring onion and coriander leaves.
Too gentle for you? Add in some chili flakes for that extra kicks!
Chicken Wings (RM 4.90)
A very addictive snack of deep fried chicken wings with lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves. These specially sourced mini chicken wing is used for easy absorb of marinade. The chicken wings are awesomely crispy with delicious bursting flavors, we had 4 servings in total, no kidding I tell ya!
Thai Popeye’s Tempura (RM 6.90) – New
A light snack which features fried water spinach leaves in light batter coupled with a piquant ” Soot Yut” dip (means awesome in Thai). It was not oily at all and I like the creamy chili dipping that consists of coconut milk, garlic and onion.
Grilled Chicken Meat Balls (RM 4.90)
This was quite mediocre and really nothing to shout about.
Yum Mama (RM 8.50) – New
A classic Thai instant noodle salad comprises of onion, spring onion, coriander, crab filament, tomato and chicken sausages. Spicy, sour and savory, a great appetizer to whet your appetite.
There are a few more new items which I’m not able to try that day due to my limited stomach capacity.
Yum Woon Sen (RM 13.00)
Spicy glass noodle salad served with bouncy shrimps, crab sticks and vegetables.
Yum Meatball (RM 8.90)
Thai style spicy salad with chicken meat balls, minced chicken and vegetables.
Bangkok Ommelette with Sood Yut (RM 11.90)
Kra-Pow Chicken Rice (RM 11.90)
Not a noodle lover? Fret not, the new menu of Boat Noodle does not limit to just glass noodle but diners can now opt for rice selection as well with a very affordable price.
Ka Num Tuay (RM 1.00 / 2pcs)
The only dessert in the menu, coconut milk and pandan pudding. Served in saucer, the texture was quite firm with creamy and salty coconut milk layer and sweet and aromatic pandan layer.
Craving for a Thai street food feast? Affordable one to be precise, do head over Boat Noodle!
I’ve tried my best, the result is not too impressive huh =.=”

I know boat noodles is kind famous in KL now but I never knew boat noodle originally from Thai. I would really love to try too if going KL someday cause I love Thai cuisines besides Japanese meals.
Hopefully the craze will spread to Sabah very soon 🙂
