Chinese New Year Set Menu 2016 @ Ee Chinese Cuisine, Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya
Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holidays; signifying the beginning of Spring. It’s the best time for families, friends and co-workers getting together under one roof for a favorably and promising moments. It’s become a tradition for me to have friends gathering at Ee Chinese Cuisine at this time of the year to usher in the brand new year.
As usual, Ee Chinese Cuisine has lined up a sumptuous spread of dishes that exquisitely blend both traditional and modern flavors for this festive season.
Salmon with Rice Cracker Yee Sang 年年有余
We started off with the obligatory Yee Sang, features fresh sliced salmon, crispy rice crackers, assorted julienned vegetables and pickles. Tossed to good fortune and health, the higher you toss, the better!

Double Boiled Chinese Herb with Dried Scallop and Fish Maw 包罗万象
The double boiled soups here are always a delight to savour. Our soup course was laden bountifully with dried scallop, fish maw, conch and Chinese herbals, the combination of all precious ingredients giving it a distinctive sweet and wholesome flavor that we just could not get enough. I instantly felt my body warm up and invigorated as I sipped the soup.
Steamed Kerai Fish with Superior Soy Sauce 黄袍加身
Fish dish is always a welcome sight during CNY, as fish symbolises “surpluses and remainders for the new year”. Our next dish was steamed Kerai Fish with Superior Soy Sauce. The fish was prepared with the scales still intact, it glisten with a jewel-like luster and cooked to a crisp. Being my first time had this fresh water fish, I loved it. The freshness and natural sweetness of the fish just shone through. My only gripe was the fish is quite bony.
Roasted Pi Pa Duck 富甲天下
The amber hued roasted duck was in all its shinning glory. The flavors of the marination were delicate and the meat was succulent and tenderly soft. The brown sauce underneath gave the duck an extra lusty savory taste.
Braised Homemade Bean Curd, Dried Oyster with Prawns and Vegetables 祥龙贺岁
Stir fried prawns , mushroom, fresh lily bulbs, and vegetables with minimal seasoning retained the sweetness of each ingredients and I especially adore the crunchiness of the fresh lily bulbs. Also make presence were a circular of homemade bean curd and braised dried oysters. The drop shape homemade bean curd look innocuous but turned out to be a big hit among us. It was brilliantly flavored by dried shrimp hidden within, the water chestnut and finely chopped vegetables provided an adequate crunchiness to the bean curd.
Waxed Meat Rice with XO Sauce
The Waxed Meat Rice with XO Sauce was certainly good, with plenty of wok hei and fragrance. I wouldn’t mind having a couple of bowls of this.
Coconut Pudding 万事如意
We ended our dinner with this refreshing and cooling coconut. Always a satisfying dinner here at Ee Chinese Cuisine.
