Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory @ Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

There is always a sense of unsureness when you start to pronounce Korean words in English. The latest Korean words I have stumbled upon is Chir Chir which actually pronounced as Chi-Re Chi-Re.

Chir Chir is South Korea’s largest chain restaurants, known for its signature freshly-cooked Korean chicken dishes that are fried only upon order. It is also one of the largest “Chimaek” franchises in South Korea, with over 100 stores and spread its wings to China, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore and now in Malaysia since 2017.

“Chimaek” 치맥 is compound word formed from Chicken and Maekju which refers to a popular dining combination of chicken (usually fried or spicy) and cold beer.

As unpredictable as the pronunciation of the name is the fried chicken itself which manages to reinvent the concept of normal Malaysia fried chicken into epiphany of flavours with just one bite.

Chir Chir Fusion Chicken Factory’s first outpost in Malaysia nestled in Pavilion Elite, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The restaurant is spacious, airy and full of subdued wood tones. The setting is simple but it’s the play on the decoration that attracts one’s attention. Egg carton, eggs with smiley face, decorative chickens, beverage coasters are placed all over the restaurant which creates a casual and youthful vibe.

Although fried chicken is best enjoyed using our bare hands but the thoughtful folks at Chir Chir provides these specially designed mini tongs for those who want to keep your hands clean while eating.

Curry Fried Chicken (Single portion RM30.90 & Double portion RM56.90)

Crunchy, succulent and flavorsome, this Curry Fried Chicken has all that I want in a perfect piece of fried chicken. Influenced by the local palates, the fresh chicken pieces are coated with their signature batter and deep fried to a crispy and golden perfection then generously sprinkled with aromatic and addictive curry seasoning. The fresh chicken really make a huge different, the outer layer was super crispy and yet the flesh was tender and so succulent. Using ingredients fully imported from Korea, the curry seasoning was sublime! It created a burst of flavors from the spices and curry leaves with a pleasant spicy sensation to the taste bud. Don’t miss the crunchy bits, I was almost tempted to polish them off.

Honey Butter Chicken (Single portion RM24.90 & Double portion RM52.90)

The Honey Butter Chicken is one of the favorites at Chir Chir. Featuring boneless chicken chunks, potato wedges and rice cakes were tossed in honey butter sauce, finished with honey butter seasoning powder, dried cranberries and sliced almonds. It’s lightly sweet and buttery with a sandy texture. I must admit that some might not use to the flavor (eg. Sam) but I personally like that lovely hit of savory and sweetness on the chicken.  Served along with honey mayo garlic sauce.

Spicy Chi-bap (Single portion RM33.90 & Double portion RM60.90)

Pay tribute to Korea’s beloved “Bibimbap” with a twist and the Malaysians’ love for cheese, there are two variations for Chir Chir Chi-Bap – Spicy Chi-bap and Rose Cheese Chiqueen.

A word of caution, the level of spiciness of this dish is not for the faint-hearted. Also served pipping hot with an iron cast skillet, the seaweed flavoured rice was surrounded by a ring of fried chicken tender and sweet potato chunks in spicy marinade of onion salsa and BBQ sauce, topped with fries and grated cheese. The sticky sauce hit the high note on spiciness (at least for my standard =.=”) and it was explosively hot and fiery that almost numb my lips. It will left you with a tongue burning sensation throughout the meal and challenge it if you dare!

Rose Cheese Chiqueen (Single portion RM33.90 & Double portion RM60.90)

Cheese lovers will definitely go weak at the knee upon seeing this cheese laden dish served on your table. Served in an iron cast skillet and showcased crispy fried chicken tenders sit on pool of mozzarella and fondue cheese, completed with potato wedges, broccoli and cherry tomatoes. Chicken breast was used but it tender and soft unlike most where the meat tends to be tough and stringy.

Nest Snow (Single portion RM34.90 & Double portion RM62.90)

An absolute sin for weight-watchers!

Fried cajun chicken tenders sit on bed of sweet potato mash in a pool of creamy white sauce then crowned with a swirl of fresh whipped cream and grated cheese. Forget the calories and dig into this rich and lusciously creamy indulgence! Vegetables such as broccoli, capsicum and olive were added to reduce the guiltiness 😛 The portion is big and slightly heavy so it is best shared among a few people.

Grapefruit Yogurt & Pineapple Smoothie (RM14.90/glass or RM30.90/jar)

Ice-blend mix of grapefruit yogurt, grapefruit and mint leaves, the beverage carries the distinctive citrus-y taste of the grapefruit, very refreshing indeed.

The Pineapple Smoothie is a delight mix of pineapple puree, coconut, strawberry, banana and mint leaves. We certainly enjoyed the rich fruity tang of it.

Although they do not serve beer in this outlet but their beverages are great substitute to pair with the fried chicken as well.

If you are working nearby this area, do check out their lunch promo too!

Verdict: The food here probably cost higher than the usual fried chicken joint but rest assured, once you devour the fresh chicken, you’d know they’re worth it. Portion is big as well to justify the money spent. I’m planning to go back for the Curry Fried Chicken, anyone joining me?
