Fat Spoon Cafe @ Damansara Utama

Pushed the quirky wooden doors in and I felt like as if I was brought back in time once I stepped in Fat Spoon Cafe. Located at Damansara Utama aka Damansara Uptown, same row with Wondermilk Cupcakes facing the residential area, Fat Spoon Cafe is run by two sisters serving Nyonya food with a modern twist.

Exposed bricks walls, mix and match recycled chairs, antique ornaments, old photos, wooden larder from my parent’s era and kitchen utensils hanging on the ceiling have made up this place. A rustic and homey cafe that exudes plenty of character.

Spicy Beef Macaroni Soup (RM 13.00+)

IMG_6417

A truly comfort food I would say. A tummy & heart warming bowl of macaroni with minced beef, seaweeds and chopped coriander in slightly pungent broth and brilliantly scented with herbs.

Also served along was halved lime and some chili powder for those who prefer more oomph!

Claypot Lou Shu Fun (RM 10.00+)

IMG_6413

The smooth “rat tail noodle” aka lou shu fun was swam in thick and dark gravy laden with minced chicken, fried onions and topped with beautiful raw egg. Have a good mix and voilà, you get to enjoy a pot of creamy and toothsome noodles!

KIDS Garlic Fried Rice (RM 11.00+)

From the kid’s menu, the fried rice was adequately fluffy with pleasant garlic taste but however the “wok hei”was not distinctively presented.

The petite size  fried chicken was tantalizing, pipping hot with extremely crispy skin and moist flesh.

Sago Pudding with Salted Gula Melaka Ice Cream (RM 10.00+)

I’ve heard so much rave about desserts here at Fat Spoon and I made sure to save room for it. Among all the delectable described desserts in the menu, I opted for this simply because I love everything with Gula Melaka, call me bias please 😛

IMG_6436

We certainly got off on the right foot with the decision! The dessert was so so good which really knocked my socks off! The soft wobbly sago paired with Last Polka’s salted Gula Melaka ice cream (with real Gula Melaka bits, OMG!!). This is really a dessert to die for, the combination that beguiles me into forgetting my disdain for my growing weight…..

Verdict: Affordable priced food, good ambiance and I’ll come back again for more tummy and soul comfort food or perhaps solely for the desserts!
