Homemade Croutons & Bread Crumbs

What would you do with day-old/leftover bread as well as those bread crust that nobody want? Tossing into the trash? No!!! There are definitely better ways to use them up and here’s how I re-purpose them into something useful such as bread crumbs and croutons.

Bread Crumbs – Use as a coating for fried food, mix into minced meat as binder to make meatballs, or as a topping for gratins and casseroles.

How? Preheat oven at 180°C and toast the bread/ bread crust until golden brown on both sides. Blend them with food processor until you get the texture you desired. Keep the bread crumbs in an air-tight container and store in pantry or freezer for longer storage.

Croutons -To use on salads and soups.

How? Cut the bread into 2cm cubes, and put into a large bowl. Gently toss the cubed bread with olive oil, spices/seasoning to your liking (mixed herbs, rosemary), salt and garlic powder until each piece is coated. Preheats to 180°C and line the baking tray with baking paper. Arrange the bread cubes in a single layer, bake until golden brown and crusty, about 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, and let cool entirely before store in an air-tight container.

HAPPY COOKING!   #stayhealthy
