Hong Sheng Wonton Mee @ Kampung Bukit Cina, Melaka
Before our “early supper” at Pak Putra Tandoori & Naan, we had our dinner at Hong Seng Wonton Mee tucked away at a quiet stretch of shoplots at Kampung Bukit Cina.
There’s isn’t any decoration to speak off, furnished with round tables and plastic chairs and the cooking station is placed in front of the entrance.
The menu here is simple, wonton noodle (big, medium & small), wonton soup & vegetables ONLY.
Wonton Mee (RM4.00 – medium)
To be honest, this pale looking dry wonton noodle seems weird to me at first as I’m used to the black soy sauce wonton noodle at KL. The red lean char siu definitely not something I fond of. (Give me my sweet sticky half fat half lean char siu!)
Chili sauce placed on every table. If you haven’t already known, Malaccan eat their wonton mee mix with chili sauce.
I had a bite of the original noodle before adding in the chili sauce. I found that it was fairly aromatic from the sauce concoction made from light soy sauce, pork lard and minced pork broth. The chili sauce certainly boosted more flavors for the noodles, spicy and savory with light acidic end note. I know some restaurants will mix the chilli sauce directly into the noodles when serve but I prefer to add in the chili sauce and adjust according to preference.
The wonton served along was just run of the mill.
Verdict: For those who haven’t try this version of wonton noodle, it’s definitely worth a go. Honestly, I still love my black black wonton noodle, no faults on this but just more of a matter of preference.
