Hong Sheng Wonton Mee @ Kampung Bukit Cina, Melaka
Before our “early supper” at Pak Putra Tandoori & Naan, we had our dinner at Hong Seng Wonton Mee tucked away at a quiet stretch of shoplots at Kampung Bukit Cina.
There’s isn’t any decoration to speak off, furnished with round tables and plastic chairs and the cooking station is placed in front of the entrance.
The menu here is simple, wonton noodle (big, medium & small), wonton soup & vegetables ONLY.
Wonton Mee (RM4.00 – medium)
To be honest, this pale looking dry wonton noodle seems weird to me at first as I’m used to the black soy sauce wonton noodle at KL. The red lean char siu definitely not something I fond of. (Give me my sweet sticky half fat half lean char siu!)
Chili sauce placed on every table. If you haven’t already known, Malaccan eat their wonton mee mix with chili sauce.
I had a bite of the original noodle before adding in the chili sauce. I found that it was fairly aromatic from the sauce concoction made from light soy sauce, pork lard and minced pork broth. The chili sauce certainly boosted more flavors for the noodles, spicy and savory with light acidic end note. I know some restaurants will mix the chilli sauce directly into the noodles when serve but I prefer to add in the chili sauce and adjust according to preference.
The wonton served along was just run of the mill.
Verdict: For those who haven’t try this version of wonton noodle, it’s definitely worth a go. Honestly, I still love my black black wonton noodle, no faults on this but just more of a matter of preference.

Yea, i think i’d prefer the black version too 😛
High 5!
No i didn’t know they eat their wantan mee with chili sauce. How weird. I guess now I know! haha
It’s so surprise me that u never try this!
ooo kampung bukit cina is just 2km from my home during my teenage years … i’m not sure i’ve had this wonton mee before though 🙂
So I guess u r used to this type of wonton mee with chili sauce?
I need to make a weekend trip to Melaka to try this out! 🙂
It looks delicious. Thanks for letting me know about the way true Melaka people eat wantan mee. I’ll be sure to add chilli too, for an authentic local experience.
You are welcome, hope you can have a try of this special wonton mee soon!
MY kinda food!
Good!
still RM3.50 and it’s so affordable.. even the big one can’t buy a small one in KL.. 🙁
Haiz, KL standard, what to do 🙁
The char siew looks almost like those we’d get in kolo mee. Yeah, mee too, I still prefer our black sauce one 🙂
So u tried this version before?

To me, almost everything in Melaka is delicious. I have tried many times their Nyonya Food, Rice Balls, Satay Celup Steamboat and even Jam Tarts. Now this Wonton Noodles will be next.
Honestly, this wonton mee doesn’t suit my taste bud but I like other food you’ve mentioned too except the satay celup, LOL
I was at this shopn one of the weekends when I went n tried the wan tan mee.
I went with my wife n daughter. As they were quite full they decided to share a bowl. When we requested for an empty bowl, the Bangleshi worker said it would cost me 30 sen. I was taken aback cos I have never experience in all my years of eating out that I was told I hv to pay for such a request.
When I complained to the proprietor, he was very arrogant. He literally told me that if I m not happy I do hv to “come again”. This I agree cos I m never ever going to this shop again, me a paying customer.
So sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience but actually there is a photo in my post (with price list) stated a few “rules” of this shop which included the extra bowl will be charged (rule no.2) but there is an exclusion which my photo just snapped part of it. I think this is not the only arrogant shop in our country (or even worldwide :P), we as a consumer cn choose not to visit them as they are not the only shop that selling that particular product.
Never did they employ a Bangladeshi worker before and charge nothing for an empty …have you mistaken the wrong stall?
Kenny Ng, you may check out the photo of their signboard at the end of my post.
What’s the big fussed about adding rm0.30 for an additional bow. It’s most probably for the extra cost for washing the extra bow using dish detergents…!! Anyway since they charge Rm3.50 for a small bow of Char Siew Wanton mee. Very Cheap already mah…!!! I will just pay it…. 😕
Leong Chee Kit, thank you for your comment and what I can say is different people have different point of view.

Where can I buy the chilli sauce?
Anna, sorry that I’m not selling the chili sauce. Maybe you can make inquiry to the vendor.
