Janwa Thai Restaurant @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong
Janwa Thai Restaurant, one of the restaurant that has been here at Bandar Menjalara, Kepong for like ages but as a Kepong-ite for more than 30 years I never dine in here before 😛 #justdontaskmewhy
And finally when we loitering around that area searching for our dinner on a casual weekday evening, hubby suggested: let’s go Janwa! So we landed at this Thai restaurant with colourfully decorated facade.
Stepped into the restaurant, I found that it was quite worn down over the years and tables were cramped within the shop area. Not much decorative items in the restaurant except these colourful umbrellas as shown in the photo~
Seafood Tom Yum (RM 15.00)
A Thai meal isn’t really a Thai meal without Tom Yum, right? Served pipping hot with fire underneath (but it was too fiery until we needed the waiter to help us to put out the fire =.=” )
Filled with prawns, squid, fish, tomato, and more. The Tom Yum here struck a perfect balance of sourness and hotness, very aromatic with a glorious hint of lemongrass and kaffir leaves. I enjoyed this to the very last drop 😛
Otak otak (RM 16.00)
Looked huge in serving however it was mostly packed with vegetables and the otak otak paste was insignificant. The measly amount of seafood also one of the disappointment factor.
Pandan Chicken (RM 2.20 / pcs)
Rather fragrant and pretty tasty but nothing really too memorable.
Fried Kangkung (RM 10.00)
Verdict: An affordable and decent Thai meal if you don’t wish to have steamboat which are aplenty at this area. There is also another Thai restaurant just a stone thrown away, maybe you can try it out & let me know how is it 🙂

I always love Thai cuisines, after Japanese. First time ever I came across Thai Restaurant serve otak-otak. And the price seems reasonable as well cause in KK, tomyam soup can cost up to RM20.
Otak otak dish is quite common at Thai restaurant, you can’t find at East Coast?
the umbrella deco is cute and the tom yam looks nicely packed with seafood! 😀
The Tom Yum is packed with seafood but unfortunately not the otak otak 🙁
personally feel that pandan chicken can be bought at Tesco and cook at home…so, I won’t order this if I dine out..hehe…
but what catch me here is the tomyam soup and otak-otak….
Is the flavor of the Tesco pandan chicken nice? I never see that bofore, maybe I can try go search search 😛
