Kodawari Menya @ 1 Mont Kiara

Nestled in 1 Mont Kiara shopping mall, Udon takes centre stage in Kodawari Menya’s menu. Their Udon and soup are made and imported from Kagawa, Japan, which is famed for its Sanuki Udon Noodles.


Kodawari Menya doesn’t occupy a proper shoplot but kind of a kiosk located on level 1, diagonally opposite my used to be favourite ramen joint (now it has rebranded and I have yet to try). Simple light wooden furniture were placed neatly under red canopies and seating was rather ample.

Yes, you guess it right, my visit was last year December (^^;) 

Self service was practiced here. Choose from a list of udon and rice bowls and proceed to next counters for more choices of side dishes, then pay at the cashier.


Assorted of tempura to go with your udon such as eggplants, sweet potatoes, croquettes, Shitake mushrooms, baby octopus, fish cakes, fish fillets, prawns and chicken, priced from RM2.80 to RM5.60.


More dishes like oden and sushi to complete your meal.

The udon selections weren’t exceptionally extensive but sufficient to satisfy different needs, included Clam Udon, Curry Udon, Zaru Udon (chilled udon), Wakame Udon (seaweed udon), Kimuchi Udon (Kimchi udon) and Kitsune Udon (udon with fried tofu), all clock in below RM20.00 for regular serving. There was Tom Yum Seafood Udon too to cater to Malaysians’ taste bud. 

Niku Udon (Regular- RM20.60)

Springy and slippery smooth udon served in clear dashi broth with onion and thin beef slices. Comfort food at its’ best.


Niku Miso Udon Onsen Tamago (Regular – RM17.80)

Minced beef infused with salty miso and paired with cooked to perfection onsen egg. Have a good mix and let every strand of udon lusciously coated with the creamy egg and meat mixture, a truly slurpilious experience that can make your day.


Gyu Stamina Ontama Don (RM18.80)

If you’re not a fan of udon, there were rice bowl in the menu as well. The options comprised Salmon Teriyaki, Teriyaki Chicken, Unagi, Chicken Tempura Curry Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken Tempura, just to name a few. 


Thin beef slices, caramelized onion, wobbly onsen egg and pickled topped on bowl of short grain rice. The beef slices were nicely tender but beefy flavour was a bit too overwhelming and the overall flavour was too salty for my liking too.


Verdict: A good place for udon, the rice bowl was the only miss of this meal. I think I’ll just stick to udon next time, hehe  (*´∇`*)
