Lima Blas @ Jalan Mesui, KL
Food is the cornerstone of a restaurant but the ambiance is what gets the customer into the restaurant. I couldn’t agree more when I entered Lima Blas which tucked at row of shop with no big signage, but fret not, just look for the numeric signage on the front of the restaurant as shown as below.
Lima Blas, it named after the lot number where the restaurant is located. (No.15, number fifteen or limabelas in Malay, Jalan Mesui, off Jalan Nagasari )
The decor of place plays heavily on the nostalgic feeling, from the furniture to the ornaments which provide great photography opportunity!
Al-fresco dining at the patio at the entrance.
The interior ~ My eyes were riveted on the vintage decors at every corner of this place; old typewriters, vintage posters, framed flour mill bags, spice jars, ornate signboards, a rusty bicycle and etc. There are too many too see, a pure satisfactory for one’s curiosity!
The mix and match of different types of recycled tables and chairs seem like quite awkward but they liven up the atmosphere harmonically!
Enough of the decors, let’s move on to the food they offer~
Basically Lima Blas serves Peranakan cusine which emphasizes on robust tastes with a dominantly spicy & sour flavor.
Pai Tee (RM 1.50+ / pcs)
Crispy golden hats were filled with savory shredded turnip, egg, cucumber and crowned with prawn. Enjoy this with the chili sauce to heighten the level of scrumptious-ness of this lovely appetizer.
Bendi Kukus (RM 12.00+)
A healthy choice of blanched okra aka lady’s fingers where the crunchiness of the vegetables still retained. The accompanied chili dipping packed a nice fiery punch which set my mouth on fire, beware!
Gerang Asam (RM 25.00+)
Appeared in a bright red sheen, this definitely whet my appetite with its tangy asam flavor. The stingray pieces was tender and the gravy was the best companion with white rice.
Fried Chili Siakap (Market Price)
The chili topping might look fiery but it was quite mild, a squeeze of lime for an extra citrusy taste.
Udang Sambal Petai (RM 25.00)
Are you a fan of petai? I am!! *raise both hands* A lethal combination that knocked my socks off! I was digging in to get the petai non-stop as it’s really triggers the craving addiction I have!
Ayam Sioh (RM 12.00+)
Being my first time trying this, it did not register in my mind though perhaps I’m not fond of the tamarind taste. The chicken however was cooked perfectly, very tender indeed~
Ayam Ponteh (RM 12.00+ (S), RM 22.00+ (M), RM 28.00+ (L)
A must have dish at every Baba Nyonya restaurant. The thick savory gravy with hint of sweetness of the palm sugar was moreish, another dish that simply begs for rice!
Telur Cincaluk (RM 12.00+)
Fluffy omelet with distinctive cincaluk taste.
Ice Cendol (RM 3.50+)
Ice Kacang (RM 4.50+)
Both portion of the dessert was just nice with adequately drizzled with aromatic Gula Melaka and creamy coconut milk, fragrant and sweet~
Sago Gula Melaka (RM 3.00+)
The boiled sago was drenched in thick coconut milk and Gula Melaka, an indulgence worthy of the ever growing waistline 😛
Iced Lemon Juice & Peranakan Ginger Ale (RM4.50)
Verdict: A place for authentic Peranakan food and also for the inspiring decors!
