Maison Francaise @ Jalan Changkat Kia Peng, KL
Pronounced as “too-ah-duh-tray-bo-zyeh”. That’s the exact words my hubby learnt to say to me during my birthday celebration.
But why was he speaking French? It is because France is the undisputed romantic fine-dining capital of the world and we decided to go French for my birthday treats! One of the best things about living in KL is that we have a fair share of excellent French fine dining restaurants.
Influenced by good reviews at TripAdvisor here, we booked for table for two at Maison Francaise (French House), a converted three storey mansion along Jalan Changkat Kia Peng. The romantic vintage feel of the restaurant is really the kind of place that would make any diners in savour-ing each second once you set a foot in it.
The restaurant is well designed into three distinct areas. It has a private cigar lounge upstairs while the ground floor houses the main dining hall completed with a patio that overlooks a garden and has views of the twin towers (KLCC). Venturing down to the lower part of the mansion, we were greeted with al fresco dining section surrounding a swimming pool with cocktail bar. But this section will be renovated into a closed canopy-like atmosphere (with lovely huge chandelier) come September 2014.
To our pleasant surprise, we were granted a tour around the mansion as we did “shamefully” arrived 30 minutes earlier than our reserved time-slot.
Pic: Right beside the entrance is the sleek designed bar counter.
Pic: Lower part of the mansion host an impressive wine cellar with more than 150 premium wines from France.
Featuring classic black & white furniture, elegant chandeliers & artistic paintings, the place exudes an alluring and luxurious vibe.
Further in is another more spacious section which is the perfect place to host events and function. Wooden flooring, French style windows, pristine white curtains and walls, everything oozed with charm that resulting the five stars dining ambiance.
I was enthralled by this section where plenty of natural light floods in to illuminate the restaurant.
Pool view seats and a glimpse of KLCC perhaps 😛
Al fresco dining at the verandah.
Tastefully decorated cocktail bar at lower part of the mansion which facing a pool. Looking forward for the grand face lift!
Sparkling Water
Our water was constantly refilled, the server has an innate ability to remain attentive yet offer unobtrusive service. Thumbs up!
Complimentary French Bread
Amuse bouche ~ Asparagus Mousse with Sevruga Caviar
We started with an amuse bouche of creamy and velvety smooth Asparagus Mousse with precious Sevruga Caviar. Perfect to entice the palette for an exciting meal ahead.
Brittany Lobster Bisque
The lobster broth was an explosion of crustacean stock lending the velvety lusciousnessto the bisque. Thick and richly laced with robust shellfish flavors, highly recommended for seafood connoisseurs…
Mushroom & Chestnut Soup
An elevated version of mushroom soup with delicate taste of chestnut. It was stunningly cream, chunky and earthy with a luscious sweet mellow flavor from the chestnut. A dollop of leek and lavish truffle oil made the bisque even more sumptuous in flavors. A very satisfying soup indeed!
Smoked Salmon and Avocado Salad
We were pleasantly intrigued by the presentation of this dish. It was a medley smoked salmon, fresh greens salad and avocado tartar.
The smoked salmon is prepared in house from scratch which involved painstaking procedure included slicing the fish, marinate and smoke in house for hours. It had an incredibly pleasant smoky flavor that successfully tickled our taste bud until I literally stole an extra half portion from my hubby’s plate 😛

Consisted of diced avocado, seabass, celery and asparagus dressed in tangy avocado puree with subtle hint of spiciness. It was appetizing enough to get my appetite kicking in full gear!
Seared Lamb Loin Crusted with Herbs
Artistically plating with colourful vegetables such as pearl onion, purple carrot, cherry tomato, asparagus and a touch of peppercorn sauce.
The lamb loin was cooked to a perfect medium rare with a beautiful pinkish center. I enjoyed the semi-tender texture of the meat which was utterly juicy and the flavors was mind-blowing. The herbs crust topped on the lamb loin was equally outstanding, heavenly scented with nutty endnote.
Grilled Grouper Fish and Seasonal Vegetables
Kudos to the chef in taking the presentation very seriously here. We really felt guilty to dig-in such a beautiful presented dish. A kaleidoscope of colours on the plate, equivalent to the rainbow of foods from the sauteed seasonal vegetables.
The seabass was excellent in every aspect from its sweet and delicate flavors to the nice crispy golden skin and the soft flaky texture. Hubby was really pleased with the dish, simply out of the world delicious stuff, he exclaimed 😛
For dessert lovers, I’m please to inform that Maison Francaise serve an array of interesting presented desserts and our decision making on what to have to end our lovely lunch was a really tough job.
We (or only me?) were feeling hoggish that day and here’s our dessert platter ^__* #toomuchforonlytwoperson
Strawberry & Fig & Chocolate Sorbet
Apple Tart Tatin
Pina-colada Entremet Topped with Mango Gelee
Chocolate Eclair
Desserts were decent, I especially adored the warm apple tart tatin with delicate fruity taste and also the refreshing sorbets.
Last but no least, my OOTD 😛
Verdict: Food here probably cost a penny or two more than usual but it is worth to splurge a little more for the premium quality food and of course the top notch service when comes to special occasion 🙂
