Mandala Café and Bar @ Publika

May 2018 was a historic month for Malaysia. Everyone want a new Malaysia and they got it. Let’s continue the celebration at this amazing watering hole ~ Mandala Café and Bar.

Nestled in Publika’s culinary cocoon, Mandala Café and Bar is a wine bar not only holds great pride for its wide selection of wines, alcoholic beverages and cocktails but also offers a delectable range of Western cuisine with Asian touch.

Fashionably designed within an ambiance of sheer comfort, Mandala’s posh and chic interior is beautifully accentuated by modern wooden and glass furnishing as well as the soft yellow lighting.

For those prefer more privacy and exclusivity, the spacious and well decorated VIP Room definitely can fulfill your requirements for all sort of occasions and gatherings. (*minimum spending is required) I was told that celebrities such as Datuk Jimmy Choo and Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei were the customers of MANDALA too.

Al-fresco dining seats are available too.

Extensive range of wines and alcohols as part of the decoration of the restaurant

Mandala has just launched a “3 Course Set Menu” priced at RM70 which consists of a starter, mains, dessert and a glass of their house pouring red or white wine. The set is available daily from 6.00pm to 12.00am.

Starter – Mandala’s Green

It’s a huge portion of crisp green with carrot, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, hard boiled egg, croutons, and shaved cheese served with aromatic sesame dressing.

Starter – Mushroom Soup

A safe option when comes to Western soup. Mandala’s version was decent with nice creamy texture and the mushroom bits were abundance. Served with garlic toast.

Starter – Oxtail Soup

Rich and redolent with delightful beefy flavour, the oxtail soup was sufficiently bold in flavour.

Mains – Golden Soft Shell Crab Spaghetti

Fried whole soft shell crab sat gorgeously on bed of pasta tossed in light buttermilk sauce. Sprinkles of chili flakes imparted a sensational mild heat to the dish.

Mains – Grilled Chicken with Buttermilk/Black Pepper

A simple and classic grilled chicken chop that nicely executed. Well marinated boneless chicken was perfectly cooked to a lightly crispy skin with tender and succulent flesh.

Mains – Jumbo Soft Shell Crab with Charcoal Bun

This certainly a hit-the-spot ensemble of mouth-watering deep fried whole soft shell crab, layered with fried egg (with luscious runny egg yolk), fresh lettuce and tomato slices sandwiched in soft charcoal buns.

Mains – Fish & Chips

This did not hit me with huge surprise, a pretty average dish.

Mains – Grilled Salmon with Mashed Potato

The thick Salmon fillet was slightly overcooked for my liking and I would have hoped for some sauce to go with the fish. Served along with salad and generous portion of mashed potato.

Dessert – Brownie with Ice Cream

The brownie that yielded an incredibly rich chocolate flavour paired perfectly with the Vanilla ice cream.

Dessert – Crepe Cake

I enjoyed immensely the melt-in-your-mouth sensation of the smooth velvety cream and the crepes.

Mandala’s house pouring wine

Other than the 3 course set meal, there are also a few new items in the menu which included Oxtail Soup, Jumbo Soft Shell Crab with Charcoal Bun, Grilled Salmon with Mashed Potato and Seafood Pizza.

Seafood Pizza

I like the thin crust pizza generously covered with melted cheese and copious ingredients, this definitely won’t disappoint the pizza lovers.

Lychee Pink Lemonade (RM16.00), Chamomile Tea (RM12.00) & Hazelnut Chocolate (RM16.00)

If the wine selection or the alcohol beverages do not tickle your fancy, there are non-alcoholic options too such as coffee, tea, fruit juice, soda and ice blended drinks.

Verdict: It’s an ideal destination to consider if you want to chill with nice wines and good food in a posh yet easy-going atmosphere. Certainly a great place to wind down your evening with a little wine sipping and light conversation with friends or colleagues after a hard day’s work.
