Metal Box @ Empire Damansara

Metal Box Restaurant & Cafe located at Empire Damansara is famous for its shipping containers concept that associated in the cafe’s industrial themed setting. The chef behind it, Mr. Ryan which was previously in charge at The Red Beanbag at Publika also the major crowd puller.

Metal Box offers both indoor and al-fresco dining area. Bare cement walls and floor, a container housing the kitchen, dangling light bulbs and a concrete brick partition has made up the interior however seats are quite limited. There are 2 areas for al-fresco dining area, one facing the mall itself and the other one overlooks the greenery and quiet side road. (Pardon me because I lost my photos of the cafe’s interior)

The Metal Breakfast (RM 20.90)

Hubby had his usual order of big breakfast. Metal Box’s version consisted of your choice of beef bacon or turkey ham, 2 eggs (scrambled, poached, sunny side up or over easy) and sausages (chicken or beef), French sour dough, homemade cannellini beans, mini hash browns, confit cherry vine tomato and garden greens.

Taste wise, the turkey ham, sausages and hash brown was pretty standard. I like the home made cannellini beans & sour dough, nicely done sunny side up as well as the arugula salad. Portion indeed value for money.

Metal Box Baked Egg (RM 18.90)

Being the signature dish of Chef Ryan and I’ve tried RRB’s version (1st visit & 2nd visit), I certainly don’t wanna miss the chance to sample Metal Box’s version. Smoked chicken breast and chicken sausage replaced the lamb bratwurst which was rather too bland for me. The addition eggplant and cannellini beans were much welcomed, the tangy tomato flavors was spot on too. A prick to the beautiful done egg followed by a deep scoop into the melted gruyere cheese and tomato coulis, the mixture was creamy, complex and fantastic!

Banatella Filo Bar (RM 15.90)

Since Sam shared our portion so we had room for dessert this round. It was a mouth watering piece filo pastry thickly slathered with Nutella almond cream and banana. Served along was vanilla ice cream on a bed of crumble. A sinful yet satisfying ending to our brunch session.

Verdict: Food we had were pretty satisfying, a place worth trying if you are at the vicinity.
