Palm Court @ Eastern & Oriental Hotel, Penang

I got the information from social media postings mentioned that Palm Court restaurant in Eastern & Oriental Hotel has resumed operation for dine in and takeaway from 12.00pm to 10.00pm daily. (adhere to the social distancing practice and SOPs set by the local government) I had my lunch there during my staycation early this year and let’s check out what we had that day.

Located at lobby level at Heritage Wing, Palm Court certainly had the feel of spaciousness with a lot of room between table. White walls and the contrasting dark wood fittings, completed with colonial style furniture, this was a combination that exuded a laid back and cozy vibe. The whole place filled with lots of natural lights was welcoming and pleasant at sight. The huge cabinet with exquisite collection of tableware at the sofa area further enhanced the design of the entire place.

The menu offers a diversity of Malay, Indian and Chinese dishes that pays tribute to the multi-cultural heritage of Penang. There are small selections of casual international fare  included in the menu.

Pineapple Juice (RM18.00) & Iced Coffee (RM16.00)

Lamb Tandoori (RM45.00)

Served with fluffy naan, mint yogurt, raita and condiments, the lamb tandoori smothered with spices marinade was delicious with smoky charred aroma as well as robust and herbaceous flavours.

Chicken Tikka Masala (RM35.00)

The chicken was slow-braised in creamy spiced curry sauce which was lusciously rich with heavy doses of spices. The creamy curry was fabulous and I flooded my rice with lots of gravy! My truly guilty pleasure food.

Other Indian dishes in the menu included Mackerel Fish Tandoori (RM35.00), Chicken Tandoori (RM30.00) and Vegetables Korma (RM30.00).

Filet Mignon Steak Panini (RM65.00)

My Australian prime tenderloin was cooked medium rare as per my request, sandwiched in between panini with caramelized onion, lettuce, tomato slices and cheese, served with steak fries. The steak was tender and the seasoning was minimal to showcase the rich beefy flavour. Served with mayonnaise, tomato sauce, dijon mustard and sweet chili sauce in cute small jar.

Also in the Soup and Sandwich list were Rendang Lamb Sandwich (RM35.00), Lentil & Cumin Burger (RM30.00), Butternut Squash Soup (RM20.00), Soup Ekor Lembu (RM25.00) and others.

Other choices in the menu included Popiah Basah & Roasted Five Spice Duck (RM25.00),  Som Tam (RM40.00), Australian Black Angus Rib Eye (RM80.00), Creamy Seafood Pie (RM50.00), Vegetable Caponata Tart (RM30.00), just to name a few.

For the quintessential E&O experience, the three-tiered English afternoon tea that is presented here is a classic not to be missed.

♥Verdict: Although the selection weren’t really extensive, but sufficient to keep your stomach satisfy, be it for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
