Rama V Thai Fine Cuisine @ Jalan U-Thant, KL
I love Thai food for its distinctive hot & spicy flavors which make me sweat a bucket when indulging it. *Enjoy the self-torturing moment :P*
Tucked away from the busy district of Kuala Lumpur, Rama V is your choice if you are planning for a romantic date night, a unique one to be precise. Put aside the boring western candle light meal and try out the exquisite Thai fine cuisine offered at Rama V.
Dressed in dim light, the restaurant boasts a simple but elegant interior with earth tone furniture and a contrasting bright orange wall.
Upon opening the glass panel door, another world is waiting for you.
Pond, wooden tables and lush greenery, created a sense of tranquility echoed throughout the place.
We requested for a “private hut” when we made reservation and this is how’s it looks like. These “private hut”can accommodate 8-14 pax depends on the size of the hut.
Our “private hut” is equipped with tatami seat, sparingly adorned with wooden cravings.
Papaya Salad (RM 22.00++)
A perfect palate-opener to awake your appetite. Shredded green papaya laced in a spicy piquant dressing, the long bean, peanuts and dried shrimp provide a pleasant crunchy factor. Beware of the bird eye chili bits which really can kick up the spicy level a few notches.
Soft Shell Crab Salad (RM 25.00++)
Huge chunks of fried soft shell crab accompanied with shredded mango, coriander, red onion and cherry tomatoes in appetizing spicy and sour dressing.
Fish Cake (RM 24.00++)
Studded with chopped long beans and spices, the fish cakes were bouncy, fragrant and savory, pretty good stuff .
Tom Yum Seafood (1 portion ~RM 18.00++)
Filled with prawns, mussels, squid and fish fillet, the tom yum broth was mild in flavor and not as spicy as I had expected. Undoubtedly a lackluster soup in my book.
Green Chicken Curry (Medium ~RM 26.00++)
Never a fan of green chicken curry because it lack of kicking factor for me but my friends seem like quite enjoyed this. Creamy and velvety curry with chicken chunks, eggplant, long beans and perfumed with handful of Thai basil leaves.
Pandan Chicken (RM 25.00++)
The chicken pieces were wrapped in pandan leaves (screwpine leaves) and deep fried. The tenderness of the chicken was retained with robust flavors from the enticing marinade. Everyone was fighting for the last piece and we put in another order for this 😛
Asparagus (RM 26.00++)
Thai Eggplant (RM 18.00++)
Both vegetables dishes were prepared in spicy gravy packed a nice fiery punch.
Duck with Hot Basil (RM 28.00++)
Soft and tender duck meat laced in spicy and aromatic sauce redolent with Thai basil.
Pumpkin Custard (RM 11.00++)
We enjoyed our dessert that evening, creamy and rich and most important not overly sweet.
Verdict: Well, not a complete blast to our sense but good enough for a Thai meal however the “fine dining”standard of price range definitely not something I can afford too often.
