Restoran Makanan Laut Villa @ Sitiawan, Perak
We had a pleasant stay at Swiss-Garden Beach Resort Damai Laut as well as an enjoyable dinner at Kampung Cina, Sitiawan. I’ve joined one of their latest promotion, escorted dinner excursion which guests drive their own car escorted by resort car to Kampung Cina located half hour journey from the resort. We were brought to Restoran Makanan Laut Villa which I think is one of the popular seafood restaurant in that village judging by the cars parking in front of the restaurant.
The place was packed to the brim but luckily the restaurant had made reservation for us. There isn’t any decoration to speak of, just a semi al-fresco dining space but the crowd and a steady stream of walk in customers definitely warrant a promising meal ahead.
Toddy aka coconut flower wine, an alcoholic beverage created from the fermented sap of coconut flower. Frankly speaking as my first try, it didn’t really impressed me 😛 The toddy here was served at room temperature with optional of having it with Guinness Stout and with additional ice cubes for those who prefer it cold.
Foochow Spicy and Sour Fish Maw Soup
Sitiawan is known for its strong Foochow heritage. Various traditional Foochow dishes such as Red Rice Wine Vermicelli, “Kong Piang” are served in Sitiawan restaurants and households alike, as well as this “Goroow” which is Spicy and Sour Fish Maw Soup. Fish maws are fried before adding it into the sweet & sour soup, other ingredients found were wood ear fungus, egg and chives. The broth is spicy, sour, sweet, savoury and eggy-thick, a very satisfying soup indeed.
Red Rice Wine Vermicelli
Another renowned Foochow dish made with red glutinous wine, mee suah and chicken. Their version was mild in flavor and diluted, I’ve tested a thicker version somewhere else.
Four Heavenly King
One of the signature at Villa Seafood, a huge aluminium bowl loaded with seafood in Thai style sour and spicy broth.
The various of seafood such as flower crabs, prawns, fish and clams were drenched in clear broth infused with plenty of minced garlic, chili, spring onion and cilantro. The freshness is undeniable, the broth was spot on with well balanced sourness and spiciness which had us compulsively slurping up each steaming hot spoonful.
Oh Chien
A crispy rendition that I never try before and this certainly a lot better than the common oyster omelet that contain soft and chewy batter. Studded with copious of small oyster, this crispy deep fried egg omelet was addictively delicous and go well with the famous Kampung Koh chili sauce too!
Marmite Crabs
The sticky sweet sauce coated evenly on the crabs, simply a finger licking good dish!
Vietnam Style Prawns
The flavors of this Vietnam style sauce resemble the Chinese style sweet and sour with additional dried chili and chili leaves which imparted a subdued aroma to the dish.
Dual Style Steamed Scallops
The fresh scallops were steamed with 2 different sauce, spicy sauce and minced ginger. This was a bit lackluster is compare with other dishes.
Verdict: We left the Villa with a bloated and satisfying stomach. Food was above average and reasonably priced too. If you are nearby the vicinity, this place definitely worth dropping by.

I like the looks of that Four Heavenly Kings bowl of goodness and the oh chien. To get frizzy strands like that, it must be deep fried. Probably that’s why it’s different from those fried in flat cast iron top ones.
I prefer this version 🙂 Have you tried before?
the coconut flower wine also can get here…at the Teluk Gong seafood restaurant.
I like the oh chien you ordered. Not like the omelette type
I never been or went once (forgot) Teluk Gong but didn’t try coconut flower wine 😛 But it’s ok since I don’t like it LOL
Oh my! I would love to join this as I miss Sitiawan! Sobs..
Plan a trip this coming school break!
ooo, i have a lot of university friends who are from sitiawan … wonder if they know this place 🙂
