Shilin Official Residence 士林官邸公园 & TaipeiEYE 台北戏棚 @ Taipei, Taiwan

My Taiwan travelogue has finally come to an end which took me more than one year after my trip 😛 But ‘better slow than sorry”, haha! Please click HERE for all the postings for the trip.

The Shilin Official Residence 士林官邸 located on Fulin Road in Shilin District士林区福林路, Taipei, Taiwan, is the former residence of late Republic of China President Chiang Kai Shek 蔣介石 and his wife Soong Mei Ling宋美龄.  The site was opened to the public in 1996 and it is the first ecological garden of Taipei City. Besides the main residence, other buildings within the compound include the guesthouse, Victory Chapel, Ciyun Pavilion and several gorgeous gardens.

The official residence home is a two-story western style building which amalgamates wooden structure with reinforced concrete. Entrance fee is charge for the visit into the residence but we didn’t make it during our trip. Here’s the ticket price:-

General visitors – NTD $100

Group visitors (20 or more) – NTD $80

Operating Hours: Tuesday to Sunday 09:30~12:00 (Tickets sold until 11:40)、                                                                        13:30~17:00 (Tickets sold until 16:40)

Closed Days:  Mondays, Chinese New Year (New Year’s Eve ~ fourth day of Chinese New Year), Tomb Sweeping Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-autumn Festival, regular maintenance time (two weeks every September)

We had stroll at the surrounded gardens filled with plenty of varieties of flowers in vibrant colors. I enjoyed tremendously my leisure walk at the garden under the comfortable weather (sunny with 20°C temperature), admired the colourful pretty flowers in full bloom.

We were brought to TaipeiEYE 台北戏棚 on our last night at Taipei for a Chinese opara show.

About TaipeiEYE 台北戏棚

Home for Authentic Traditional Chinese Performing Arts in Taiwan.  Showcases diverse performances featuring classical Taiwanese opera, Peking opera, puppet theater, and Aboriginal dance.

Guests were entertained by the Pipa performance at the lobby before the show.

Also attracted the attention was the “open make up room” where the actors did their make up meticulously for the show right in front of your eyes. You can even get a chance to have a snapshot with the actors!

Some merchandises on sales if you want to bring home as souvenir.

Our show that evening themed ‘The Monkey King Fights The Spider Goblin’ 美猴王大战蜘蛛精

The theater is spacious and comfortable with a maximum seating capacity of 314. There are simultaneous translations in Chinese, Japanese, Korean and English projected on both sides of the stage, so you don’t have to worry about missing out on anything.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!

I must admit this is a show meant for tourists but those playful acting, excellent acrobats, ancient stories and traditional Chinese opera is good for all ages. A very cool way to have a taste of local culture and the plus point is the tickets are not expensive at all! Check out the schedule and ticket prices

The performance schedule updates each month so there’s always something new and different to experience.
