Skinny Dip @ Bandar Menjalara, Kepong

When my hubby asked me to go Skinny Dip, I thought he was insane! But it turns out that he was just referring to one of hidden gem cafes at Bandar Menjalara, Kepong.

Located diagonally opposite from Restoran De’ Champion Duck, which I think serves one of the better roasted ducks in Kepong, Skinny Dip is a cafe that I pass by quite often but had no impetus to walk in. Well finally.

The interior of the cafe was simple with dark ceiling and cream colour walls, adorned with frame artworks. Hanging light bulbs imparted a yellowish hue to the space with tables being placed rather cramped within the dining area where the beverage counter bar also sharing the space.

Macchiato (RM8.00)

Drinks menu featuring assorted coffees, fruit juice, soft drinks, teas and chocolate drinks.

The pork-free menu boasted a wide selection of both western and local delights included big breakfast, pizza, salads, chicken chop, pastas, sandwiches, burgers, croissant with different fillings, sourdough toast with assorted ingredients such as scrambled egg (only Kampung Eggs are used), mashed spinach, chorizos, mushrooms and etc. Local delights choices were Mee Siam, fried porridge, Maggi Goreng, Nyonya fried rice and a few more. Light bites and kid menu also available.

Big-Ass Chicken Garing (RM18.00)

Featuring a big slab of chef’s special batter-fried chicken thigh served with buttered spinach. The freshly fried chicken was crunchy on the outer with tender meaty flesh inside, however the flavour was a little subdued.

Mum’s Curry Porridge (RM16.00)

An unique twist to the claypot porridge that we’re familiar with. Curry paste was infused into the porridge not only gave it a vibrant orangey hue but also a pleasant curry flavour which was not too overpowering. There creamy porridge was cooked with some prawns, cabbage, and crispy curry leaves.

Hot Mess (RM20.00)

I was in mood for something sweet, so I got myself this matcha waffle with homemade berry compote, almond praline, cream cheese cubes, diced strawberries and crowned with New Zealand berry vanilla ice cream. It looked utterly delectable and inviting, begging to be savoured with that beautifully baked waffle and all those condiments. The texture of the waffle was not to my preferred crispy on the outer, it was rather dense. No faults here, just more of a matter of preference.

Sweet and savoury waffles selection was priced from RM13.00 to RM20.00.

♥Verdict: Overall, our brunch at Skinny Dip was fairly good except for a few misses in between. I’d probably give it a second chance since it is near my house.

  • Aiyah, I was hoping for some skinny-dipping photos…kekeke! 😀 This is the first time I’ve ever seen curry porridge….I’m wondering what that tastes like. In my mind, I’m thinking it would be a weird combo…and probably wouldn’t like it if I can taste curry powder in the porridge. I’ve seen fried porridge on menus and even that I don’t dare order, let alone curry porridge….hahaha! ;D

    • Kris, I revisited the cafe recently and saw a skinny dip-looks-alike photo featuring back view of a group of topless ladies, hehe 😛
I’ve taste the curry porridge and couldn’t taste the curry powder. Fried porridge to me is porridge with stronger flavour only (which is quite good with many ingredients insude), maybe you should try next time if you see it in the menu again.

  • The big ass chicken garing sure makes me feel tempted. 🙂

  • I’m probably more interested in champion duckkkk

  • What a name hah..hah.. I would be focused on the baked good section.

    • PH, I got my sisters a few pieces of cakes from here recently and they commented that the Tiramisu (with alcohol) was a bit dry. But Sam had the croissant sandwich which was rather good. 😛
