A trip to Sabah will never complete without trying their fresh seafood. There are plenty of places to eat seafood all around Kota Kinabalu according to your budget. From high-ends seafood restaurants, mid-ranger to open-air hawker stalls.
We were brought to this Seri Selera Kampung Air by my sister-in-law which just came back from working trip not long ago. Parking can be quite horrendous at this area, it took us at least 20 minutes to locate a parking spot.
It is actually a huge open air food court houses a few seafood restaurants with every restaurant equipped with rows of aquariums displaying the live seafood. The place was full to the brim on 3rd day of Chinese New Year.
We opted for Suang Tain Seafood Restaurant(双天海鲜楼)which also known as Twinsky, located at the furthest end of the food court.
There are massive quantity of various live seafood are kept in rows of tanks with price properly labelled, giving diners a wide selection of live sea creatures which they can choose and pick from.
Other than the major seafood restaurants, there are also stalls selling beverages and snacks in Seri Selera Kampung Air. The vendors will approach your table and promote their food.
We had this barbecue chicken wings while waiting for our food. Not bad but you can definitely can get a better one in KL 😛
We waited almost 30 minutes for our food to arrive, it was bearable considering the massive crowds. Ordering was swift as the staff will ‘professionally’ recommend the best cooking style for you according to the seafood chosen.
Steamed Grouper
Firm and flaky fish steamed classically with supreme soy sauce. Simple but delicious.
Butter Squid
Crowned with golden egg slivers, it was extremely aromatic and most important not greasy. The squid was done just nice with slightly chewy texture, thumbs up!
Stir Fried Sa Bak with Spring Onions and Ginger
Sa Bak is a type of clam similar with Lala but with harder shell. The spring onions and ginger successfully brought out the umami taste and sweetness of the clams.
Rice Wine Chicken
I guess kampung chicken was used in this dish as the texture of the chicken was firm and I like the flavor of the gravy which was not too overwhelming.
Prawns Omelet
Stir Fried Potato Leaves with Belacan
Verdict: The price not entirely cheap if compared with KL standard but reasonably prices I would say. Freshness of the seafood is unquestionably and the good varieties. Service was attentive, courteous and not pushy. Will definitely recommend this place if you look for decent seafood meal at K.K, Sabah.
