Tang Room @ The Starling

It’s my usual breakfast gathering with my mom and sis on Sunday and this round we had Dim Dum at Tang Room at The Starling.

With the ceiling-to-floor glass windows surrounded the restaurant, sunshine floods the space which create an inviting and pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant is spacious and gorgeously designed with carpeted flooring, rose gold and bronze themed, mingling with Chinese inspiration detail such as the infinity knots on the panels.

There are seating on the corridor of the mall as well as a few private rooms for special occasions of functions.

Dim Sum is served on push carts on Sunday and Public Holiday while on other days, food is served per order via the Dim Dum menu.

There is also a special crafted ala carte menu with wide variety of appetizers, chef’s selections, noodle & rice dishes as well as desserts included Golden Pumpkin (RM14.00), Icy Japanese Vegetables (RM28.00), Crispy Pork Belly with Garlic (RM38.00), River Carp Medallion in Superior Soy Sauce (RM10.80), Golden Prawn Balls with Foie Gras Sauce (RM16.00), Fried Hokkien Mee (RM28.00), Egg Noodle Village Style (RM28.00), Hakka Style Steamed Rice with Wax Meat (RM17.00), Lemongrass Jelly (RM9.00), Durian Pudding (RM12.00) and many more.

We spotted a live cooking station preparing pipping hot porridge with various of fresh seafood and ingredients at the back of the dining area. Diners also can order dishes (which are not on the ala carte menu) displayed at the cooking station.

Rainbow Siew Mai (RM9.80)

The Siew Mai in different colours of skin was meaty.

Sweet Corn & Prawn Dumpling (RM11.80)

Generous bouncy prawn filling, what’s not to like?

Char Siew Buo (RM7.80)

Soft fluffy Bao skin with sweet savoury barbequed pork filling, another must order during Dim Sum session!

Loh Mai Gai (RM9.80)

I like the Lor Mai Gai, soft and well seasoned glutinous rice, topped with abalone slice (real abalone?◔_◔), boneless chicken meat, thick Char Siew and Chinese waxed sausage slice.

Prawn & Spinach Dumpling with Black Truffle (RM11.80)

Steamed Pork Ribs (RM9.80)

Minced Meat & Century Egg Porridge (RM11.80)

The porridge was velvety smooth with generous amount of ingredients and adequately seasoned. Oh ya, the trio sauces in the photo were good especially the right one which I believe is their signature Teochew Spicy Sauce and can be purchased in the restaurant.

Pan Fried Radish Cakes with French Beans in Teochew Spicy Sauce (RM9.80)

Quite unique with French beans being added and I like the flavour of the Teochew Spicy Sauce however it lacked of the distinctive “wok hei” aroma and flavour.

Pan Fried Carrot Cake with Shredded Yam (RM9.80)

I’m not sure whether I like this because the shredded yam crust tend to stick on my teeth. The flavour was good nonetheless.

Crispy Prawns Dumplings (RM9.80)

Wu Kok (RM8.80)

Cheong Fun with Crispy Prawns (RM11.80)

Instead of the usual Cheong Fun (rice roll) choices (prawns, Char Siew or minced meat & mushrooms), we got this rendition of Cheong Fun wrapped with crispy Vietnamese rice paper spring roll, served with special sweet savoury dipping. The texture and flavours were indeed unique, soft rice roll, crispy rice paper, bouncy prawn and nutty pine nuts, rather delightful to the palate.

Piglet Custard Bun (RM10.00/2pcs)

Kids couldn’t resist its cute appearance and it’s actually salted egg yolk custard bun, not the best I’ve tried (not molten enough) but decent.

Egg Tart

♥Verdict: Prices are slightly on higher side but considering the comfy dining environment and sufficiently good food (though a bit of hiccup on the service), revisit is on the cards.
