If only my mom can wait a few weeks and all the hassle of visiting Immigration Dept a few times just to renew a passport can be avoided.
To fill you guys in, the past few months had been a nightmare for people who wanted to renew their passport due to the new passport fiasco implemented earlier this year. You can read about it HERE.
After a few disappointed visits with impending travel date looming, my mom took a drastic measure and gambled on renewing her passport at outskirt of urban KL, Kuala Kubu Baru (KKB) to be precise.
The queue when we arrived circa 7am on a weekday, luckily my aunt who stay here queued for us before we reached, or else we have to come again as we got number 84 and tickets giving out that day was 100nos only >_<
KKB is a rustic small town in Hulu Selangor district. It is located approximately 70km from Kuala Lumpur through highway and is the main gateway for people heading to Fraser’s Hill, which is a 45-minute drive away from KKB.
Colonial shophouses still make up most of KKB’s architectural landscape. The town area is made up 3-4 streets that houses banks, sundry shops, eateries, traditional barber and even a former cinema, converted into an entertainment centre. One can enjoy home-styled Hainanese cuisine at Sun Sun Seng Nam or get some famous KKB kaya puffs from the old school bakery Teng Wun Bakery & Confectionery.
Teng Wun Bakery & Confectionery (升云西果店) has garnered quite a name for their kaya puffs. Vast media coverage of this more than 30 years old bakery is spotted on the walls.
Kaya Puff (RM1.30/pcs)
Individually packed in plastic bag to protect the brittle crust.
The kaya puff has a nice flaky pastry crust however it was not as light and buttery as I would have hoped. The house made kaya (coconut egg jam) filling is rustic, grainy in texture but very aromatic and not too sweet. It is good but still cannot beat Ipoh Sin Eng Heong’s version.
Cupcake (RM 5.50/packet of 6)
If compared to the kaya puff, I undoubtedly prefer this. It is extremely soft and fluffy with pleasant egg-y and buttery aroma. It’s yummy~~
Verdict: If you are around KKB, the kaya puffs still worth a try. Do call for booking first as I know the kaya puffs will sold out pretty fast especially on weekends. I know that they have durian cake and cupcakes as well but those need at least 3 days advance booking.

the teddy bear is super-cute, and the puffs and cakes look very appetising! phew, my passport is only expiring in 2020, so i’m safe for now! 😉
Oh ya, that bear is a good ornament for my photography session 😛

Well, at least the trip was not in vain as you got to snack on some kaya puffs and cupcakes. I like that cute cat plate of yours….my Cookie will enjoy eating from it….lol! 😀
