It was birthday of our youngest member in my makan gang, we whisked him off a birthday dinner at The Kitchen Table located at Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya. There are a few eateries at the same row of shoplot so scouting for a parking space can be quite horrendous at this area.

Stepped into the restaurant, I was immediately enthralled by its simple, immaculate and bright white interior. The place is beautifully accentuated by the wooden furnishing and contemporary style of lighting. Despite the simplicity in setting, the restaurant sparked with charm and a sense of tranquility.

The dessert display cabinet filled with delectable cakes and pastry that hardly to resist. The Kitchen Table also take pride in serving artisanal breads and rustic pastries, do check out their selections if you happen to be there.

How about a sneak peak on how’s your food is prepared? Oh, I love the while tiled wall, simply too classic~~ Can I have one at home too?

There are 2 different set of menu at The Kitchen Table – The Daytime Menu (served on Tuesday – Friday 12pm-3pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am-3pm) & The Dinner Menu (served on Tuesday-Saturday 6.30pm-9.30pm). The menu is fairly simple and no much choices.

Sharing Pitchers – Lemongrass & Ginger Fizz (RM 25.00)

A refreshing concoction of lemon and lemongrass with subdued gingery taste.

Small Plate – Citrus Salad (RM 24.00)

Our starter was presented colourfully with bed of citrus fruits crowned with blanched deep sea calamari, capers, onions, peppers and mint then dressed in shallot vinaigrette. I like the nice chewy texture of the calamari accompanied with an appetizingly sourish flavors and citrusy tang.

Large Plate – Buckwheat Fried Chicken (RM 38.00)

We came here with a purpose actually, to try their flagship chicken!

6 pieces of perfectly done fried chicken lay on bed of pomelo salad topped with fried basil leaves. The skin of the chicken was deftly fried till super crunchy while the inner juiciness still retained. The pomelo salad certainly a great “palate cleanser” to offset the meaty note.

Large Plate – Roasted Pork Belly (RM 46.00)

Another signature dish of The Kitchen Table, imparted with high expectations for this but we were like…..slapped with disappointment. The texture of the pork belly was tender however it fell short on the flavors. It was utterly bland and the meager amount apple reduction couldn’t save the whole dish.

Large Plate – Orecchiette Pasta (RM 31.00)

For something more substantial, we shared a dish of Orecchiette pasta. The pasta good flavor of garlic and sufficiently drenched in creamy miso butter sauce with oyster and shimeji mushroom. A prick to the poached egg on top and let the pasta bathed in the luscious egg yolk goodness.

Vegetables – Roasted Cauliflower (RM 22.00)

Just like its appearance, the vegetables course turned out to be quite lackluster and not appealing to me. The roasted cauliflower, celery, onions, red radish & cilantro with a spread of ricotta cheese was monotonous in terms of flavors.

Flourless Chocolate Cake (RM 12.90)

The cakes was not on par too, the texture was too dry and firm for our liking but the intense chocolaty flavor complimented the overall experience.

Apple Pie & Thyme (RM 18.00)

The apple pie on the other hand successfully won our hearts. A humongous apple pie in beautiful golden hue with sprinkles of fresh thyme served with Gula Melaka cream. The apple filling had a good balance of sweet and sour taste with pleasant scent of thyme. Call me bias, I love everything with Gula Melaka so eat this with the Gula Melaka cream can simply stole my liking!

Verdict: Hits and misses for the food but the flagship chicken definitely lure me for a revisit. Hopefully their menu can be extended to more varieties in the future.
