Tonkatsu by Ma Maison @ Publika
Tonkatsu, a Japanese food which consists of a breaded, deep-fried pork cutlet and normally served with shredded cabbage.Tonkatsu by Ma Maison is a chain of restaurants from Japan that specializes in Tonkatsu. Malaysia’s first Tonkatsu by Ma Maison outlet was opened in January 2013 at Eat Paradise, Isetan, I Utama and the second outlet at Publika.
We paid a visit to the Publika outlet a few months back for hubby’s birthday dinner. The restaurant is located opposite Nando’s and one floor above Daiso.
One can easily struck by the sampuru or fake food plastic models at the facade which really intrigued the curiosity to check out the offerings at Tonkatsu by Ma Maison.
Adopted a contemporary trend in design, the place is dressed in grey and dark wooden with yellow illumination of dangling light bulbs and downlights.
A quieter section at the back of the restaurant, suitable to accommodate bigger group of patrons or for those who need more privacy 😛
The open kitchen ~ I was attracted by the cabbage slicing machine ^__^
We took sometime studied on the detailed guide on how to enjoy Tonkatsu.
Each table is equipped with jars & bottles; sesame seed grinder, Tamari sauce, sesame dressing, rock salt, sweet and spicy Tonkatsu sauce. We curiously check out everyone of them. LOL
The 3-compartment bowl, fill it with rock salt, sweet Tonkatsu sauce & spicy Tonkatsu sauce. Salt helps to bring out the taste of the meat while the sauces meant to add extra taste to the meat and also a traditional way of eating Tonkatsu.
Miso Hire Katsu Set (RM 29.90+)
All set menu comes with roasted barley tea, rice (plain steam rice or (Jyukkokumai) multi grain rice), tonjiru (miso soup with pork) and cabbage which are refillable.
Nagoya style deep fried pork fillet with black miso sauce.
Sink your teeth into the extremely crunchy panko layer followed by the succulent and well-flavored pork fillet. Simply out of the world delicious stuff and definitely achieved the targeted expectation!
Mille Feuille Cheese Katsu (RM 32.90+)
Deep fried layered pork loin filled with cheese. The pork loin was fried to perfection without any trace of oil and the texture of the meat was more moisture with the glorious fat layer. This definitely an indulgence worthy of every calorie it packed!
While the main star performed their task well, the supporting cast screamed for attention too.
Cabbage
Fresh thin cabbage slices paired well with their house made sesame dressing, I added grounded roasted sesame for that extra fragrance.
Multi Grain Rice
Definitely recommend to choose this other than the white rice as it has more texture and fragrant.
Tonjiru
Intensely flavored with earthy miso taste with pork, scallion and radish.
Verdict: Great food, portion wise and decent service and dining environment, definitely factors to lure me for a revisit.

Looks yummy! The pork looks juicy and not too dry!
The pork was incredibly juicy and non-oily at all! A must try if you happen to be nearby the restaurant~
Pork I like….
Let’s go again!
protein power! lovely pics of the lovely meat 😀
I think my photography skill not good enough to capture the best of the pork cutlet!
Yes cabbage works well with them! 😀
Great to offset the meaty meal~
They are in 1U too, that’s great. Will try them one of these days 🙂
