Well Cook Gourmet @ SS 14, Subang Jaya

Well Cook Gourmet nestled at SS 14 Subang Jaya is famous for their fried Asam Laksa. Yes, you heard me right, the Penang Asam Laksa but prepared in dry version.

The restaurant setting is simple and the long narrow space is filled with tables which looked rather cramped. Other than the signature fried Laksa, Well Cook Gourmet also offers variety of noodle and rice dishes.

Syrup Bandung (RM3.50), Layer Tea (RM4.10) & Limau (RM2.60)

Fried Laksa (RM8.00)

Arrived pipping hot, the Lye Fun was stir fried with shrimps, egg and bean sprouts and topped with usual condiments of soupy Asam Laksa such as fresh shredded onion, pineapple, cucumber and torch ginger (bunga kantan). One of the main ingredient of Asam Laksa – the fish was missing though. The flavor was appetizing with pleasant tangy-ness, sourness and spiciness. ‘Wok hei’ was adequate with lovely eggy edges.

Claypot Prawn Mee (RM8.00)

Served in a claypot, the prawn noodles came with generous ingredients of prawns, fish balls, bean sprouts, hard boiled egg, water spinach and handful of fried onion as well as a dollop of sambal. The broth was passable, fragrant with good amount of prawn flavor.

Popiah (RM7.00)

The popiah was pretty good too, wrapped generously with stir fried turnips, bean sprouts, shredded egg, tofu, cucumber, fried onion, sweet sauce and chili sauce.

Verdict: The fried Laksa definitely score point for its novelty, if you like the flavor of Asam Laksa but don’t want to drench in sweat while eating the soupy noodles, try this out!
