Wong Ah Wah (W.A.W) Restaurant @ Jalan Alor, Kuala Lumpur
When we mention about Wong Ah Wah (W.A.W) at Jalan Alor, it is almost equals to the ‘best BBQ chicken wings in KL’ (as many people said so) which has massively attracted both locals and tourists.
Located at Jalan Alor, the popular food destination in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, W.A.W undeniably the busiest eatery among those roadside restaurants. With a huge seating capacity of 5 shops, this place still packed to the brim during our visit on a Saturday night. There are both indoor and outdoor seats as well as a long stretch of tables on the road side, but all was occupied and we had to wait for awhile to secure a table. The al-fresco dining area was stuffy and hot and it got worsened when you were seated near the kitchen for the restaurant next door ~>_<~
Barbecued Chicken Wings
After an hour plus of waiting, our food arrived.
Obviously, the visit to W.A.W will never complete without an order of their famous barbecued chicken wings. Roasted to a nice amber hue, these chicken wings looked utterly inviting. Flavor wise, not really impressive as the flavor was a little too mild for me. The chicken wings had good dose of smokiness but still lie below expectation. It certainly wouldn’t make it to my list of best barbecued chicken wings in KL.
Roasted Pork Noodles
The noodles was similar to Wonton Mee, topped with stir fried roasted pork with dark soy sauce. This was good, the roasted pork was delicious, slightly caramelized with savoury soy sauce coating.
Hokkien Mee
The Hokkien Mee was just average, I definitely can find better ones elsewhere.
Verdict: The food we had was just mediocre but I know there are people who love their food but definitely not me. The long waiting time and the uncomfortable dining environment (outdoor seats) most probably the main factors that deter me for a revisit.

I just visited that street a week ago to check out since my last visit over 10 years ago!! The whole place looked so vibrant and bursting with excitement but I missed this W.A.W. stall… I was so undecided and got lured by some noisy ushers to try another restaurant. I will look out for this WAW when I bring my guest there soon.
TM, me too, visited this street after so many years and I was amazed by the massive tourists crowd.
Nothing special
Anonymous, indeed~
“After an hour plus of waiting” OMG! That’s very long.
Maybe Too touristy already that’s why food quality also became average.
(I also like siew kai yik) 🙂
Mel, I can wait long but provided the food is good, but this was just a bit disappointed.
Jalan Alor. Been ages since I stepped foot here. Used to frequent here when I was in college. It has been that long.
Merryn, I also seldom come to this area, parking is quite a problem and very expensive too ~>_<~
amazing how wong ah waw has endured so long. i did like it a long time ago, but i haven’t been back in more than 10 years, i think 🙂
Sean, yes, think they has been operated for more than 20 years and still stand strong at Jalan Alor.
It’s been so long ago that I ate these chicken wings that I can’t remember what it tastes like. I think this place has since become a touristy place.
Kris, very touristy indeed~
