Yen Can Cook ~ Fish Fillet in Tomato Sauce

This Fish Fillet in Tomato Sauce 茄汁鱼片 is surely a crowd pleasing dish that will make everyone happy. Boneless fried fish fillet coated in appetizing and tangy tomato sauce, what’s not to like?


Ingredients (Serve: 3-4)

300g fish fillet (Patin, dory, grouper, tilapia, thread-fin, snapper or any white fish fillet)

50g corn starch

Cooking oil

Spring onion (garnishing)


10g salt

10ml cooking wine

1 egg white

Tomato sauce

50g tomato sauce

25g sugar

20ml vinegar 

10ml water


Step 1: Mix all the ingredients of marinade in a bowl and marinate the fish slices for 20-30 minutes.

Step 2: Coat the marinated fish fillets (Step 1) with corn starch.

Step 3: Mix all the ingredients of tomato sauce in a bowl and set aside.

Step 4: Heat oil in a frying-pan or wok over medium heat. Pan fry or deep fry fish fillets until both sides are lightly brown. Dish up and set aside.

Step 5: Pour away the oil in the pan, add in the tomato sauce mixture (Step 3) and bring to boil. Add in the fried fish fillets and toss well until the fish fillets are evenly coated with the tomato sauce. 

Step 6: Garnish with chopped spring onion and serve.
