Yen Can Cook ~ Homemade Chicken Nugget

When mention about chicken nuggets, the first thing that flash into your mind is none other than the iconic McDonald’s Chicken McNuggets. They also can be easily found in the freezer section of the grocery store.

Crispy chicken nuggets are sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike but most varieties of processed chicken nuggets contain an overwhelmingly high amount of preservatives as well as artificial flavourings, so they should be eaten sparingly. If chicken nuggets are a favorite in your house, opt to make your own – baked, fried or even broiled – at least you’ll have full control over the ingredients you’re using. You might think that homemade chicken nuggets are hard, but here’s the thing: they’re not! When I tell you it’s easy, it is! Oh ya, these homemade chicken nuggets are freezer-friendly, make as many chicken nuggets as you want and freeze them!

Ingredients (Serve: 4-5)

2pcs chicken breast (500g-700g), cut into small pieces

2 eggs

100g all-purpose-flour

30g corn flour

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon white pepper

Cooking oil

Step 1: Place the chicken breast, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and white pepper in a food processor/blender. Blend chicken until a smooth paste forms. Keep in fridge for 1 hour.

Step 2: Combine corn flour and all-purpose-flour on a plate and beaten eggs in a small bowl.

Step 3: Using lightly wet hands, divide chicken paste (Step 1) into 1 tablespoon (15g) portions and roll portions into balls.

Step 4: Roll a “chicken ball” in flour (Step 2), then in egg, and then in flour again. Then, press the ball down to make a nugget.

Step 5: Heat oil in a skillet on medium-high heat, add in the nuggets and fry until both sides are in golden brown. Remove and set aside.

Step 6: Heat the oil again in high heat, carefully return the nuggets (Step 5) to fry for another 30 seconds. This double fry method can create a crispier exterior for your food.

Step 7: Remove the nuggets to a plate lined with a paper towel or napkin to allow excess oil to drain.Serve.
