Yen Can Cook: Sake Steamed Salmon

Have you ever experienced the disaster of your fish sticking on the pan during frying? Don’t know how to estimate the time for steaming a fish? Love fish but totally at your wits’ end when trying to cook it?  I’m here to tell you an easy method (probably the easiest) you can use to cook fish – in a parcel!

Cook your fish in a homemade parcel/pouch by using parchment paper or aluminum foil is incredibly easy, simple and almost foolproof for cooking novices. This method not only suitable for fish but also all kinds of seafood and mixed vegetables. What wins my heart the most is the cleaning part, it’s hassle free, no dirty pots or plates washing after the meal, sound great right?

 

Ingredients (Serve:1)

1pcs Salmon

1/4 Onion, sliced

2 Shiitake mushrooms, sliced

2 teaspoons butter

1 tablespoon Sake

2 teaspoons soy sauce

1 teaspoon lemon juice

Parsley (fresh or dried)

Salt and pepper

Parchment paper/aluminum foil

Step 1: Preheat oven to 200°C .

Step 2: Place the sliced Shiitake mushrooms and onion on the parchment paper. Season fish on both sides with salt and pepper. Lay fish on top of the mushrooms and onion then topped with butter.

 

Step 3: Bring the long edges of the parchment paper together the roll and crimp the sides to form a parcel. Before totally seal the parcel, pour in the Sake.

Step 4: Lay the parcel on a baking tray and bake in the oven at 200°C for 20 minutes or until the fish is cooked.

Step 5: Remove the parcel from the oven, carefully open it (hot steam!) and add the soy sauce and lemon juice over the fish.

Step 6: Sprinkle with parsley and serve.
