Yen Can Cook: Salt Grilled Salmon Fish Head
My friend helped me to get a whole fresh Norwegian Salmon Fish 2 months ago, I’d finished most of the meat and left the fish head still sitting in my freezer. (・´з`・) I’m totally clueless on what to cook with the fish head and after browsing some online recipes, I’ve decided to try the easiest one which is salt grilled. The simple recipe only calls for four ingredients which is fish head, salt, black pepper and sake. The preparation and cooking process is not complicated as well, suit my lazy style perfectly! (▰∀◕)ノ
Ingredients (Serve: 2-3)
1 Salmon Fish head (the whole fish is approximately 4.5kgs)
2 tablespoons sake/cooking wine
1.5 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon found black pepper
Quarter of a lemon
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Step 1: Clean the fish head, pat dry then rub the whole fish head thoroughly with sake.
Step 2: Combine the salt and black pepper, then sprinkle on the fish head. Marinate the fish head in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Step 3: Preheat oven 200°C, line the baking try with baking paper/aluminum foil.
Step 4: Take out the marinated Salmon fish head , pat dry the excessive water then put on the baking tray, bake for 30 minutes or until the flesh is fully cooked.
Step 5: Squeeze the lemon on the grilled fish head and serve.
HAPPY COOKING!
I could imagine how big your 4.5kg fish!
This is the first time I hear sake being used to marinate. Interesting to boost the flavour.
TM, quite a big fish but my family had no problem finished it since we love fish 🙂
Looks legit, can sell at restaurant d
KY, I never order any grilled fish head so no comparison, hehe 😛 But I quite like the simple flavour though~~
Wah! I really like this! When grilled salmon head is available at some Japanese restaurants, I sure order and I enjoy it a lot. Maybe I can buy and try your recipe.
PH, I very order any in restaurant, hopefully you enjoy your homecook version using this recipe 🙂
Wow, so simple…I like it salt grilled. I don’t see salmon selling at wet markets (maybe pre-order of whole fish is available) but I always see salmon fish head selling at Aeon. Only thing I’m afraid is its freshness.
Kris, hmm…. I wonder how to check on the freshness of the fish head as the gill is normally being removed, maybe check on the fish eyes?
this is a good order at japanese restaurants too, especially when the flesh is moist and substantial 😀
Sean, I never order any, maybe I should try it next time ^__^
Wow! This is something really great. I’ll try this out obviously. Thanks for the article. Keep doing the great job.
