Yong Tau Foo @ Pasir Pinji, Ipoh
After the caves temples visit, we proceed to Pasir Pinji to have our first meal at Ipoh.
Pasir Pinji “Dai Shu Geok” literally translated as “Big Tree Foot” is a popular spot for cheap & satisfying lunch among both locals and tourists. Famous for the Yong Tau Foo or better know as “zha liu” (fried food) at Ipoh, this place housed a few stalls selling different food such as above mentioned YTF, popiah, satay and beverages under the same shack.
The shady big tree.
Interior
The al-fresco dining area under the tents.
Pick your food at the self service counter for the “zha liu” and hand them over to the staff and your food will be served to you after being re-fried. There are plenty of choices for the fish paste stuffed food ranging from the common brinjal, chili, beancurd puff, beancurd, bittergourd to the special items like stuffed egg, long bean, yau zha guai and yambean fritter.
They also serve noodle such as clear soup noodle, asam laksa and curry laksa.
The yambean fritter that I most anticipated, anyone know where can I get this at KL?
Row of bowls/orders lining for re-fried.
Zap Guo Bing (Mixed Fruit Ice)
Ice-Blended Red Bean
Yong Tau Foo (RM 0.60 / pcs)
The food was served pipping hot; the size was decent for the price we paid (cheaper than what we get at KL) and stuffed generously with fish paste.
The Ipoh famous Sar Kok Liew (Deep fried yambean fritter)
Oh boy, I love this, super love this! Crispy on the outer and the filling of shredded yambean was slightly chewy. Oh, why so delicious !!!! Very addictive and the worst thing is I can’t get this at KL when I’m craving for it!
Hor Fun Soup (RM 1.20)
Slippery smooth hor fun in clear broth was equally good too.
Pork Satay
Well-marinated meat and nicely grilled with a small piece of fat intertwined between had balanced up the dryness of the lean meat.
The satay stall at the back of the shack.
Parking is available behind the shack (very limited though) or you can also park your car by roadside.

Pasir Pinji
31650, Ipoh. Business Hour: 10.00am – 5.30pm
这是来怡保必吃的地方了,我个人觉得好吃,但还不至于让我留下深刻印象哩;p
我只是喜欢那个沙葛料,其他的就还好而已 😛
Yong Tau Foo selling for 60 cent/piece?
That’s even cheaper than Seremban arr!! The pork satay look delicious.
Cheap hor, next time I’ll get 10pcs of the sar kok liew for myself *greedy mode* XD
Looks pretty good, should read this before lunch!
Wilson
should or shouldn’t? haha LOL
I love the iced blended red bean among all. 😛
A great thirst quencher!
Oooh, I love yam fritter! Malacca got good one (my hometown), but dunno where to find in kl. the one in your photo looks very tasty 😀
Oh, Malacca also have? Then who copy who ? 😛
Oh, I have been to this place before for a couple times, the Yong Tau Foo are good but a little oily and if you pay attention to the place where they are cooking the Yong Tau Foo, its actually quite dirty….
Actually i don’t like to enter the kitchen of an eatery, because I don’t want to see something that I not willing to know about, haha!@@
The green outlook is a great start.
So blend into natural huh 🙂
My usual pit stop whenever I’m in Ipoh. Love their fried stuff but have yet to try the satay and drinks.
On the other hand, I think they start at 10am instead of 830am…
oh, really? Thanks for enlighten me on the business hour 🙂
OMG, the prices are unbelievable! Each piece in S’pore costs about S$0.70!! Looks like I’ve to move to M’sia soon……
Haha, no need to move to Malaysia just for YTF XD
i went there to eat before too! super crowded!
Hard to secure a table~
All are my favourite one – yong tau foo + pork satay. Hardly to find pork satay in KK. No one is selling =(. And the drinks you ordered, it looks so refreshing and rejuvenating as well.
Pork satay is not common at KL also 😛
oh i didn’t know Pasir Pinji is “Dai Shwee Geok”, haha!! i was there last weekend, so crowded all the people fighting for the “liu”, once ready from the wok, they are swept off clean by the people~~ 😀
So did u manage to get a piece or two of the zha liu?
oh gosh, I just cannot find this place last time I was in Ipoh… heard abt this famous sar kok liew and know its gonna be superb… sigh… I gotta go get a GPS… 😉
Yes, u really need a GPS so u can reach wherever u want!
It’s so cheap! I guess I didn’t eat yong tau foo for quite long time already :/
It’s very cheap indeed!
Yum! Been here once before few years ago when I was in Ipoh for work.. still craving it till today! Nvr tried the yambean thing though.. sar kok, isn’t that sengkuang/turnip? Going to Ipoh this Friday, gonna try my best to ask Adam to make a pitstop here. 😀
Yes, the sar kok is sengkuang, a must try item!
