Around the World with SOULed OUT Ampang!

On June 19, 2018, I have witnessed history.

Specifically, Japan became the first Asian country to beat South American at World Cup. Yes, I have caught the World Cup bug and I have joined millions to watch 22 players fight it out in 90 minutes.

Perhaps the fantastic food and great atmosphere at that time, made me over exaggerated this football milestone.

SOULed OUT has consistently been a favourite rendezvous point for football fans and also foodie too. On top of that, you can be seated comfortably al fresco style or in the fully air conditioned indoor.

Enjoy the al-fresco area facing the busy Jalan Ampang where there is a big screen projector available for some sport actions.

SOULed OUT Ampang is located in the heart of the city, to cater for patrons in that vicinity. Other outlets included Sri Hartamas, Bangsar South, Taman Tun Dr Ismail and Kota Kinabalu.

Indoor – If you’re looking more just to hang out casually, the bar counter and high table seating might be your choice. Patrons can watch their favorite sport games from every angle at this area while hanging out or dining there!

The upper floor offers more restaurant dining, spaciously decorated with modern furniture, unique timber wood ceiling and wood panels flooring. The whole ambience had a sense of smart casualness and an easy-going vibe.

This was my view that day with the TV right in front of my table!

For a quieter dining, head on to the back of the main dining area with a long stretch of banquette seats with comfy cushions.

SOULed OUT Ampang has recently revamped its menu to take customers on a culinary adventure around the world. The new additions to the existing full fledged menu provide a whole new level of palate excitement by embracing diverse cuisines from Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and many more.

Lamb Kalabi (RM24.00)

Generously topped on the rustic pizza base with slightly burnt crispy edges, the spicy Keema style spiced lamb which redolent with herbs combined perfectly with the melted mozzarella cheese, and created an evocative flavours.

Roasted Duck (RM24.00)

Another East meets West combination with thin sliced roasted duck, tamarind glaze, pineapple, crispy shallot, coriander and melted cheese. Love the multi dimensional of textures and flavours when I had a big mouthful of every ingredients on the pizza. However I would have appreciate a bit more savoury roasted duck slices as those were really delicious goodness 😛

Lamb Pie (RM36.00)

Hidden underneath the baked to golden cheesy mashed potato, the braised lamb in red wine reduction with carrot and celery was robust and earthy with a hint of spices. The rich stew had delectable chunks of soft lamb that was so tender and tasty together with soft braised vegetables. The pie reflects hearty and rustic all bundled into one!

Beef Ragout (RM23.00)

The pasta with Beef Ragout was rather mediocre though.

Sawadee Salad (RM23.00)

I love the crunchy angle beans in this salad, very unusual ingredient indeed. Other ingredients such as prawns, hard boiled egg, onion, cashew nuts and crispy fried vermicelli served on bed of fresh lettuce and tossed with appetizing Thai inspired creamy dressing.

Sizzling Lamb Shortloin (RM39.00)

The lamb shortloin knock it out of the park and becaome my favourite dish of that evening. Marinated in Indian herbs, the flavours of the lamb cutlets were precisely calibrated and tasted fantastic on its own without needing any sauces. The accompanied spicy sauce was good to mop it up with the served along naan. Raitha and Papadum are included as well.

Bakso (RM17.00)

For those who prefer light flavour option, you may consider this Indonesian Bakso with beef balls, glass noodles, vegetables and crispy wonton skin served with clear beef broth. A bit bland for my liking but the spicy sambal came as saviour. Add according to own preference and spice tolerance, the sambal definitey can jazz up your dining experience.

Following its launch at SOULed OUT Kuala Lumpur and SOULed OUT Ampang, the new menu will be introduced in stages at other SOULed OUT outlets over the next few months.

Spicy Popcorn Chicken (RM18.00) & Deep Fried Calamari (RM28.00)

What’s not to like with those crispy fried squid and chicken chunks when it’s cooked just right? Best to munch on when watching World Cup, Go, go, go! Ale, ale, ale!

From cocktails to mocktails, beer to wine and more, there are an array of beverages to quench your thirst.

Guinness Chocolate Milkshake (RM21.00)

Very interesting cocoction that you have to come and try it yourself!

Jackfruit Mojito (RM28.00) & Red/White Wine (Carafe – RM30.00)

Watermelon/Orange Juice (RM11.00)

Verdict: SOULed OUT’s menu definitely has something for everyone, Western, Asian, Indian, vegetarian or even local hawker delights as well as meals for the little ones. This place is great to cater those who are looking for a place to hang out after work or for some sports action. It is hot enough for one to let down their hair on a Friday night and cool enough to saunter in with the family for the weekends.
