B-Lab @ VERVE Shops, Mont Kiara

Located same row with Podgy & The Banker I’ve visited before, B-Lab is a bakery, bistro cum bar run by Japanese chef Yukichi Matsubara & his wife. Do expected some non-halal Western cuisine with Asian twist in their menu ranging from salads, pastas, pizzas and mains as well as some fresh pastries and cookies.

Boasted a laboratory theme, the restaurant is heavily adorned with lab equipment as well as scientific formulas and equation the wall. The mixture of black and white tone space beautifully accentuated by the soft lighting, swanky and chic at the same time, having a casual and laid back atmosphere.

Pressed Pork Belly with Snow Bean (RM 50.00)

I really imparted high expectation for this signature dish of B-Lab but was slapped with disappointment.

The chunk of pork belly sat on pool of apple and bacon infuse sauce broth which was lack of flavors although there were several ingredients such as onion, bacon and some herbs in it. Those ingredients didn’t help to lift up the flavors and it really lack that “x factor” to appeal to me. The pork belly on the other hand was quite decently prepared with crispy skin and tender meat however it was a little too fat for some of us.

Margherita Pizza (RM 20.00)

Iberico & Peach Pizza (RM 32.00)

Both thin crust pizzas were good. The crispy thin base hold the ingredients well with intense cheesy tang and the flavors are bold.

Pancetta & Mushroom Ragout (RM 27.00)

The al dente pasta was tossed in a savory sauce paired with mushrooms, pancetta, herbs and shaved cheese. The Salt cured pork belly imparts a mellow of saltiness to the overall dish, in a pleasant way of course 😛

Pan Seared Salmon Pasta (RM 35.00)

Dressed in vibrant Pomodoro sauce topped with big slab of well cooked Salmon with brittle crispy skin and pinkish succulent center.

Caramel Opera (RM 12.00)

Fruitty Roll (RM 10.00)

Verdict: The food definitely not bad at all but I doubt if I will come back again 😛

  • I do understand the unexplained chemistry of standard-average restaurant and those with a wow, the latter one has the pull factor to attract you back

  • Yeah, I saw this one when I went to La Casa. The food at La Casa looks better than this one judging from the photos of what you ate (but then I can’t say for sure since I’ve not eaten at B-Lab). The food also seems to be a bit expensive considering the portion sizes….but the cakes look huge though 🙂

  • I love the photos you shared and drooled at the pressed pork belly, pizza and fruity roll. Your disappointment on the pork belly made me wonder if that was how the chef delivered his best… I know this new Verve place and will drop by for a bite soon.

  • The pressed pork belly was looking good but the flavors was a bit let down though. There are a few restaurants at Verve shops, maybe you can try your luck there 😛
