Nippori @ Empire Damansara
I was first attracted by the flat lay food photos of this Japanese restaurant shared in social medias. The next pull factor of my visit would be the bright and clean interior which I could expect some nice photos for my blog and Instagram 😛
Nippori, a small restaurant tucked at a quiet corner in Empire Damansara that serves Japanese home cooked food. The indoor dining area isn’t really big with only 4 tatami seats with small round table as well as a few normal wooden tables, so making advance reservation may be a wise choice.
Striking a minimalist and simple look, the place is full of subdued wood tones from the flooring, furniture and decorations. Wall racks filled with Japanses magazines, mangas, dining wares and some cute ornaments. Nippori indeed a feel-good restaurant that aglow with natural sunshine and cheerful vibe.
The watermelon cushion is too cute that Sam couldn’t resisted to have a bite. LOL

Tofu Minced Chicken Donburi (RM25.00)
We ordered two set meals which came with mains, salad, miso soup, side dish, pickled and fruit. I got really excited when our small table was fully filled with those dainty plates in different designs and colours.
Still remember I’ve shared the recipe of tofu chicken patty not long ago? But I’m not inspired by this version I had, LOL
Two halved tofu chicken hamburg with sweet soy sauce sit on a bowl of Japanese rice completed with plenty of chopped spring onion, cherry tomatoes and raw egg yolk. The chicken patties had a perfect moist and juicy texture however it was slightly under-seasoned for my liking. I would have hoped that the sauce can be more generous as well. It was a fulfilling comfort food nonetheless.
The accompanied miso soup really worth a mention for its generous amount of ingredients. I got mine with Enoki mushroom, shredded vegetables and thin meat pieces, the broth was well flavoured and delicious.
Crispy Chicken Karaage (RM 35.00)
Arrived pipping to our table, the fried chicken was good with crunchy battered outer and succulent flesh. The chicken pieces were bonesless for easy consumption and they were adequately marinated for a satisfying moreish flavor.
We got pasta salad for this set instead of vegetable salad from the previous dish.
Verdict: Instead of serving the usual sushi or sashami like any other Japanese restaurants, Nippori features some of the casual home cooked dishes which are very common and popular in any Japanese family. Food wise, I can’t say their food is excellent based on my experience but I don’t mind make a return to further their menu. Service was warm and attentive and the pleasant dining environment most probably my excuse to revisit ^__^

I sometimes wonder why they salt the edamame…coz we end up opening the pods and just eating what’s inside (that doesn’t touch the salt)…wakakakaka! 😀 I have to say the miso soup is really different from those served elsewhere with enoki mushrooms and meat. Even the colour is different…like the soup has been boiled for many hours.
Kris, the salt definitely got its purpose as when you take the edamame, your fingers will contact with the salt, then it will indirectly “season” the edamame if you use your hand to eat it, haha!
I tot we suppose to eat it by biting the skin n let the pea pop out into our mouth so the salt n pea will be in the mouth together.. Just sharing ya.. Hehe..

Ya, I saw people eat like what you mentioned but I’m a bit “OCD” when comes to food cleanliness, so I’m skeptical to put the whole bean in my mouth 😛
In Japanese restaurants, cleanliness is their top priority. They actually steamed the endamame before seasoning it with salt. Hence, definitely safe to place into the mouth. Just my honest opition 🙂
