Private Dining @ Hungry Mario
Private kitchen, an unique type of eatery origins from Hong Kong which typically based in an apartments or some neighborhood housing area. The capacity for this home-dining concept is limited, usually less than 10 customers so reservation is almost mandatory.
Recently I’ve visited Hungry Mario nestled at Kepong neighbourhood offering a three course meal at RM68 per pax. The founder/chef, Hon Sing learns cooking from his mom as he used to watch and help his mom in the kitchen when he was young. Hon Sing’s cooking also much influenced by his travel experiences to country such as Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea, China, Australia, Dubai, France and Netherlands. This exclusive home dining serves handcrafted Chinese-Italian cuisine that highlight humble and local ingredients.
Hon Sing and his wife Magarita at their lovely home sweet home that now converted to a private home cafe to welcome guests who looking for one-of-a-kind private dining experience. (For Saturday & Sunday lunch and dinner)

I had the Signature Menu and the first course of appetizer came as “boxing chicken” with 3 sauces – pumpkin curry puree, green chilli chutney and roasted tomatoes. The chicken drummets were deep fried accompanied with sauces that individually possessed a distinctive taste. My personal pick would be the green chili chutney for its acidity end note that awake my sense for next dish.
The Seasonal Menu on the other hand kicked started with this artfully presented Mersing lobster sitting gorgeously on disc of crispy mashed potato topped with pea shoots. The lobster was slightly seared to retain the juiciness and its natural sweetness, well paired with the garlic aioli. I like the mash potato too, crispy outer with creamy and flavorful inner.
The flavors of the dish definitely outshone the presentation by miles 😛 Simplicity in plating, the risotto was laden with bounteous of umami flavor from the Kombu. The deep fried soft shell crab was moreish and provide a pleasant crunchy factor to the overall bite.
Both menus share the same dessert of Deconstructed Tiramisu served with
wah…so young and so talented leh

Anyway….the food looks yummy! 3 course meal for RM68 sounds ok…How bout drinks le?
I heard of private dining before but I never experienced it. The chef is indeed so young and talented. Not just his cooking, his food presentation is marvelous. Just like those cooking reality show, Masterchef.
I’ve heard about private dining but I think I’ll feel uncomfortable sitting with other guests at the same dining table unless you can take up the whole dining table…haha! 😀
Interesting private dining. Did you actually see the whole cooking process?
