Rak Somtam @ Kota Damansara
I miss Bangkok, sob sob… Miss the shopping, miss the food. I remember I visited Rak Somtam one week right after my previous Bangkok trip 😛
Business was certainly brisk during our visit on a weekend evening. There were a few groups of patrons in the waiting list and we waited for half an hour to get a table.
The place is not really big which can be easily filled up by 20-30 peoples. Dressed in soothing white and light wood tone with contrasting bright yellow and black details that heighten the vibrancy to the overall setting. Some Thai influenced art pieces and ornaments sparingly decorated the space.
Lemongrass Water (RM 3.00) & Mineral Water (RM 2.00)
Thai Fragrance Rice (RM 3.00)
Papaya Salad with Salted Egg (RM 12.90)
The piquant papaya salad was deliciously addictive. Crunchy shredded green papaya tossed in pungent lime and fish sauce dressing. I always like salted egg and it gave the salad an extra creaminess. There were also carrots, long beans, dried shrimps and peanuts added for a multitude of textures and flavors.
Red Tom Yum Seafood (RM 19.90 – Big)
Served in a beautiful earthware with heated light, our order of Tom Yum certainly looked fiery and inviting.
The pot was filled with chocked full of prawns, squids, fish fillets, mushrooms, tomatoes and herbs. The broth wasn’t as spicy as Tom Yum else where, but had a good notes of sourness and glorious aromatic hint of lemongrass.
BBQ Pork Neck (RM 18.90)
The grilled pork neck was provocative in flavors and really tugged my palate. The meat was adequately tender with light smoky aroma, the sublime flavors really make me want to keep savouring it 😛
Mixed Vegetables with Mushroom (RM 10.90)
Stir fried assorted vegetables to fulfilled the Vitamin C quota 😛
Verdict: An satisfying Thai meal and I wouldn’t say no to a second visit. Not sure if they accept reservation, call before visit to avoid long waiting.
