Restoran Cathay @ Ipoh, Perak
The simple breakfast at hotel definitely couldn’t satisfy gluttons like us 😛 Not to mention that Ipoh is always known for its hawker fare, so I’d done a simple research online and tried to get something new/special that we never had at Ipoh.
Thank you for the write up from Rebecca and Motormouth from Ipoh, we were at Restoran Cathay, a Hainanese coffee shop which located on Jalan Dato Tahwil Azhar (Osborne Street).
With a typical setting of a coffee shop/kopitiam, this place was still rather vacant when we reached at circa 11am+. But the place was filled up by lunch crowd when we left. Restoran Cathay offers Hainanese chops, steamed bread, french toast, half boiled eggs, Chinese dishes with rice, coffee and tea. There are also food stalls which are open for breakfast.
For Hainanese chop, there are options of chicken, pork, beef and fish. Hubby not fond of beef and I never heard of Hainanese fish chop so we got ourselves the common pork and chicken chop.
Pork Chop (RM12.00)
Came with two slab of pork chop, portion was fairly decent for the price. The batter was acceptable for my standard, not too thick with nice eggy taste. The meat was rather thin (approximately 0.5cm), not the most tender I’ve tried but passable. The flavor was good, the meat was well seasoned. Drenched with appetizing yet watery tomato gravy and accompanied by potato cubes, green peas, onion as well as a side of tomato and cucumber “salad”.
Chicken Chop (RM12.00)
The chicken chop was equally good with a good portion (wing + part of breast) and same eggy batter coating as well as tomato gravy. Between the pork and chicken, the latter would have won hands down because it was more tender and succulent. Thumbs up for this!
Verdict: Honestly this place certainly make it to the best Hainanese chops I’ve eaten but if you bored of the usual Ipoh food such as Bean Sprout Chicken, Curry Laksa, and so on, you may give this a try.

How does this Hainanese chicken chop compare to Yut Kee’s? I’ve yet to find pork chops that are tender myself.
Yut Kee’s one I’ve forgotten the taste but this definitely worth trying 😛 Chicken chop here is fare better than pork chop~
The chicken chop looks good but i would do away with the green peas. Not really fond of them LOL
The green pea you can give to your hubby or Joshua. LOL
hainanese fish chop sounds like an interesting order 😀
The beef chop is interesting also 🙂
