Seng Kee Chicken Rice @ Damansara Uptown
Sam and I are fan of poached chicken and I’ve bookmarked this restaurant since I read review from PH, although it wasn’t a really pleasing experience. ◔_◔
But If you never try, you’ll never know, right? (¬‿¬)
Located and the F&B hub of Damansara Uptown, getting a parking can be quite challenging but we always opt to park at The Starling Mall whenever we dine in at this area.
Established since 1991 in Skudai, Johor since 1991, Seng Kee Chicken Rice is known for its dependably chicken rice and Char Siew.
The setting of the restaurant is simple, air conditioned with bright white theme, completed with dark wooden furniture. The food and beverage preparation counter is placed at both the entrance and back of the shop relatively.
Their menu was pretty extensive with all the essential items of usual chicken rice restaurant such as both poached and roasted chicken, Char Siew, Siew Yoke, served with rice or noodles. There are also good selections of side dishes like chicken innard (gizzard & liver), Thai Style Boneless Chicken Feet, Spicy Sour Vegetables (Chai Boey), Wonton, Dumpling, Braised Egg and etc. Double boiled soups, Claypot Curry, assorted vegetables, Katong Laksa, porridge and desserts (ice cream and Gui Ling Gao).
Lotus Root and Peanut Soup (RM10.00)
It was a satisfying soup and the broth was intensely flavoured with generous ingredients of chicken chucks, lotus roots and peanuts.
Kampung Chicken – Upper Quarter (RM18.00)
Our order of upper quarter Kampung Chicken comprised chicken breast (hubby and Sam’s favourite chicken part) and wings (my favourite!), sit on pool of soy sauce with cucumber slices, garnished with spring onion and coriander.
The price was well justified by the quality of chicken, it was good. The skin was bouncy without the scary bit of fats underneath. The meat was tender even the chicken breast was not dry like what we commonly found on chicken breast elsewhere.
Usual condiments of chili sauce, soy sauce, ginger paste, and dark soy sauce were placed on every table.
Ipoh Bean Sprout (Small – RM9.00)
Not as “plump” as the one we had at Ipoh, but still decent.
Signature Oil Rice (Small – RM1.00)
The oil rice was a bit let down as it didn’t have the distinctive chicken oil aroma.
Char Siew Wonton Noodles (RM8.00)
We also had the dry Wonton Mee which came with option of plain noodles, Char Siew Wonton, Siew Yoke Wonton, poached chicken or roasted chicken.
The serving was big with generous serving of Char Siew. We were given a rather good cut of Char Siew with our favourite ratio of fat and lean meat. It had a sweet sticky glaze (not overly sweet though) with hint of pleasant smoky flavour, definitely can categorized as good Char Siew in my book!
Verdict: We had no complaint on the food we had that evening and certainly one of our options when we crave for chicken rice again.

When I read that first sentence, I thought you didn’t like the food…but what you actually meant to say was that PH was the one who didn’t have a pleasant experience here. I’m glad you finally made it here to try the poached chicken which I thought was rather good too.
Kris, since Sam & I are fan of poached chicken and the location is somewhere we always venture to, why not? ^__^
I have visited since my last review and I noted there has been improvements and I also enjoy their poached chicken. But I still do not like the char siew and siew yoke.
PH, yeah, I read your second review and it was a rather good experience if compared with previous one 😛
I love chicken rice, steamed. Go so well with stir fried beansprouts.
Lovely and satisfying meal.
Rose, satisfying and wholesome!
