Taste Of Foochow @ Pudu
Malaysia is a multicultural society of which the population is made up by different types of ethnic groups includes Malays, Chinese, Indian and the Native. Among the Malaysian population, Chinese form the second largest ethnic group after the Malay majority. Most are descendants of Southern Chinese immigrants who arrived in Malaysia between the early 19th century and the mid-20th century. The major sub-ethnic groups of Malaysian Chinese includes Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Teochew, Hainan and Foochow. Today I’m going to share about the Foochow food that I tried at Taste Of Foochow nestled in Pudu.
A fuss-free restaurant with simple setting, open space and non air conditioned.
Vast media coverage being displayed on the wall.
Assorted noodles dominated the menu with several Foochow specialty dishes such as Foochow Fish Balls, Eggy Noodles 蛋燕, Red Wine Chicken and Foochow Yanpi Wonton 福州燕皮云吞.
Dry Eggy Noodle (RM7.50)
My first tried of Foochow Eggy Noodle at Sitiawan was utterly pleasant, so I ordered this without hesitation when I saw this in the menu.
However I was slapped with disappointment. (⋟﹏⋞) The noodles was mushy and starchy, it didn’t turn out to be the tasty chewy noodle that I was expecting. The soy sauce mixture also far from being impressive.
Ho Fun & Mee Hoon Soup (RM6.50)
Soupy noodle was just decent, it was just an ordinary bowl of noodles.
Noodles was served with assorted meat balls and they were nothing out of ordinary as well.
Foochow Fried Pancake (RM2.50)
Only available on Sunday, the pancake was served cold to us with tough chew skin and the meat filling was lack of flavour. (´・_・`)
♥Verdict: The food we tried was lackluster and it would be hard to be convinced for a revisit. But I saw a FB friend from Penang dined in this place too after my visit and he likes the food. Perhaps I’ve ordered the wrong dishes, you may come and try the food and let me know what do you think.

As I know Foochow cuisine is most famous for their red wine chicken and foochow fish balls. Perhaps the soup & dry noodles are on the menu for those who don’t like red wine soup. What did your FB friend have? 😉
Kris, I know that red wine is their speacialty but the eggy noodles also another unique delicacy of them 🙁
If there is one thing that puts me off, it is starchy noodles. Too bad that the food disappointed you. I have always wanted to try Foochow Red Wine dishes, so that’s what I would go for, their specialty.
PH, to be honest, I’m not really into Foochow red wine food, that’s why I didn’t order any.
foochow food is a late discovery for me – i only ate it for the first time when i was already in my twenties. i guess some of the dishes can be an acquired taste for those of us who didn’t grow up with it 🙂
Sean, it’s not my first time trying Foochow cuisine but this was the least impressive experience.
oOo they have red wine chicken! That’s what I’d go for!
KY, go try it and let me know if their red wine food good.
I have visited this place several times but mainly for the red wine chicken. Yes the cooking can be inconsistent. During my several visits it was sometimes good and at times just so so. It depends who was making the noodle at that time
