Dinner at Mizuki Garden 水木佳园 @ Lenggeng,Negeri Sembilan

My family trip this year took place at Mizuki Garden 水木佳园 and we settled our dinner there as well since I’ve read some goods reviews about their food. We made our dinner reservation after checked into our room to the China lady and we even pre-booked the dishes. Everything seem so fine right? but I tell you,  this was the beginning of our disastrous dinner!

We reached the restaurant 5 minutes before our reservation time and the lady told us to come back half an hour later because there was no table for us. For your information, she’s not asking for our favor to postpone the time but the way she talked was kind of “instructed”, but since we were not too hungry, we agreed to come back later. OK, we went back to the restaurant half an hour later and that place was still very packed and we was told to wait for another half an hour. But this round my brother-in-law couldn’t hold his anger and insisted that we wanted to be seated immediately because there were a few kids in our group and they were hungry (it was 8pm already). So we managed to get a table shortly but we waited for 30-45 minutes before our first dish was served to our table. >_<

While we were waiting, this was how the kitchen looked like, only one chef did the cooking, no wonder the long waiting as well as the crowd. =.=”

OK, enough of complaint, let’s talk about food now 😛

Chongqing Grilled Chicken 重庆烧烤土鸡 (RM78.00)

One of their signature grilled meat (another one is grilled whole lamb) which need advanced booking as the preparation need some time. The butterflied whole chicken was sufficiently rubbed with concoction of spices then grilled to a crispy perfection on the outer. The meat although not the tenderest I’ve tasted but at least it’s not dry and coarse. The spices rub was robust and spicy, it tasted extra delicious when eat it with your hands LOL (gloves was provided).

Actually the lady took my order confirmed that this grilled chicken is non-spicy because there were small kids in our group and they couldn’t take spicy food. But we end up got this spicy grilled chicken, perhaps our standard of spicy food tolerance are different. =.=”

Spicy Chicken Stew 柴火土鸡 (RM88.00)

Stir fried in a big wok with wood fire, the chicken stew appeared in a crimson red hue and I could feel the trickling sweat in me upon seeing and smelling it.

The dish comprised of chicken chunks (which I believe was Kampung Chicken for its firmed texture), potatoes, seaweed, cauliflower and mushrooms drenched in spicy sauce. The sauce was explosively hot and fiery but spiciness is beautifully nuanced it’s addictive. I found myself savoured happily while snuffling and sweating madly, but it was quite oily as well. =.=”

Fish in Two Style 水木双味鱼 (RM42.00)

Finally something non-spicy for the kids, fish done in  two ways; with tomato sauce and spicy black bean. The fish was cut into a “Song Shu” literally translated as squirrel pattern which is one of the famous traditional dishes in Suzhou, China (中国苏州) then deep fried and paired with sauces.

Stir Fry Cabbage 手撕包菜 (RM20.00)

Even the vegetable dish was spicy studded with dried chili but it was well executed, the cabbage remained its crunchiness and the chili gave a pleasant heat element to it.

Bean Curd with Prawns 虾仁豆腐 (RM26.00)

This was average but good to tone down the heat in my mouth. LOL

Hot Candied Sweet Potatoes & Yam 拔丝地瓜&芋头 (RM20.00)

It’s deep fried sweet potato chunks coated with caramelized sugar syrup. The candied potato chunks and yam had a sticky sweet coating however the potato itself was rather bland without any sweetness.

This is the aforementioned famous roasted whole lamb, advanced booking is required too.

Verdict: Food generally was good but the price is not really cheap to be honest. For those who interested to try out their food and with kid(s), please bear in mind that the selection of non-spicy food is quite limited (perhaps their menu has expanded now). Also the management problem, you may encounter the problems that I’ve ran into, so try at your own risk 😛
