Norm Micro Roastery @ George Town, Penang
Located right opposite the hotel we stayed during our previous Penang trip on last December, we had our coffee fix (hubby’s coffee fix to be precise) at Norm Micro Roastery after slightly freshen up in our hotel room.
Didn’t know what to expect (we didn’t do any research on this cafe before our visit), we were greeted by a scene like this upon opening the heavy door. The cafe was full house with a couple of groups of customer in the waiting list.
It’s a sun-drenched space with several trees, (yes, they are trees not those small potted plants) being plated sparsely around the dining area. The minimalist interior with bare brick walls, crushed stone floor and curvy concrete benches mingled with the ample sunlight from the clear roof and liveliness from the leafy trees is what makes the cafe so captivating.
White (Regular – RM11.00)
Iced Chocolate (RM15.00)
Apart from the usual coffee based drinks, chocolate, teas, kombucha and their house specialty (Osmanthus Pear, Smoky Grapefruit & Matcha Yuzu), they also serve wines (red, white, orange & pink)
The food menu was rather limited with 14 options of dishes included Smoked Salmon (RM22), Barley & Mushroom Stew (RM25), Tomato Medley & Ricotta Cheese on Toast (RM18), Pumpkin and Prawn Rissoto (RM32), Chicken Kaarage Burger (RM25), Slow Cooked Duck Ragout Pasta & Spicy Pomodoro (RM28), Smoked Chili Jam Scrambled Egg (RM18), Quinoa & Kale Salad (RM22), Norm Fried Chicken (RM30) and French Toast, Banana & Caramel Sauce (RM22).
Mojo Pulled Pork Benedict (RM28.00)
Featuring poached egg with Hollandaise sauce lay on bed of marinated mojo pulled pork and sweet pickled apple, as well as a piece of mac and cheese croquette. Kale was being mentioned in the menu but I didn’t see any though.
The dish was rather provocative in flavour with its unique combination of ingredients. The moju pulled pork was savoury with distinctive citrusty end note, combined with the sweet pickled diced apple, creaminess from the nicely executed poached egg and the saltiness from the cheesy mac and cheese croquette, complex but the flavours blended harmoniously. Those rings of pickled Jalapeños provided a pleasant spiciness as well as balanced out the richness of the dish.
♥Verdict: Good ambiance and environment. Food wise, I can’t comment much on it since I only tried one dish but it was good, nonetheless.

The place does look very comfortable. 🙂
The food looks good too. I wonder where’s the kale. LOL
Tekkaus, too bad we didn’t stay long because we noticed that there was a few groups of waiting customers.
Oh, from the first photo of the nicely presented food, I already knew it would be good before I read your description although I was secretly hoping for a crab cake as an accompaniment to those perfectly poached eggs with a bright hollandaise. ^o^
Kris, if the dish was served with crab cake, I believe the price would be a few ringgit higher ~>_<~
I wanna go hang out at a cafe T_T
KY, stay home, stay safe~
