Melbourne Trip ~ Lune Croissanterie @ Fitzroy
If everyone is a sane man, you WOULD NOT be forking out the same amount of dollars for a sumptuous brunch for TWO in exchange for SIX pieces of cruffins & croissants. But what if it is touted as one of the best croissant in the world?
The foodie in me would say absolutely YES.
Lune Croissanterie is possibly the most raved about bakery in Melbourne. Hence, in that fateful day at artsy Fitzroy, I queued for 30 minutes and parted with approximately RM150 for the best croissants and cruffins that I have ever had.
We stumbled upon this scene when we strolled around the Fitzroy neighbourhood after our breakfast on a Saturday. The queue was actually more than acceptable for a place like this with so much awareness and the weather was quite comfortable that day.
The bakehouse stirring up a vintage industrial style interior with rustic brick walls, fading grayish tone, a coffee bar and communal benches against the wall for dine-in patrons. Lune also has its second store in the CBD.
The warehouse style place with minimalist design is spacious and the temperature-controlled lab where pastries are prepared takes center stage of the hall.
Trays of freshly baked croissants.
These were the types of croissants and cruffins (a croissant muffin crossbreed) available on that day, good range but not extensive. Ordering, paying and collection of order were at this counter. Mind you that payment is by card or e-wallet only.
RM150 worth of goodness in a box.
Traditional Croissant (AU$5.90)
The croissants here are famous for a reason. The shiny golden croissant with crisp, buttery outer and perfect internal structure which was light and delicate. The butter-heavy scent was impossible to resist although we just had our breakfast not long ago. (*^∀゚)ъ
A simple and classic pastry executed with grace and passion.
Almond Croissant (AU$9.20)
Lune’s version looked different with the usual almond croissant with almond flakes sitting upright on top of the pastry resembled a hedgehog. The buttery aroma of this twice baked almond croissant was unmistakable, with flaky, crumbly texture and laced with crunchy nutty flaked almonds as well as a lemony almond frangipane filling. It was indeed a solitary work of beauty.
Lemon Curd Cruffin (AU$7.20)
The cruffin was equally enticing. Perfect flaky golden layers pastry dusted with sugar and filled with tangy lemon curd, it was wonderfully awesome.
Other flavours were Coconut Pandan (AU$11.00), Mocha Hazelnut (AU$11.50), Choc Peanut (AU$7.60), Apple and Feijoa (AU$7.60), Ham and Gruyere (AU$9.10) & Pain Au Choc (AU$6.60)
♥Verdict: A step above most others croissants that we’ve tried and quite deserving of its rave reviews. Price is unquestionably steep but the pastries were really hit it out of the park and satisfaction guaranteed on every bite.

if only 1 AUD = 1 MYR, the prices wouldn’t be so painful – but the croissants look beautifully priceless in your photos! 🙂
Sean, really cannot make conversion during travelling ~>_<~
I want to be able to afford RM 150 pastry when I grow up!
KY, you’re mature enough to be able to spend RM150 on anything =.=”
I can see how crisp and flaky the croissants look….but at almost RM30 a pop…ouch, very painful indeed :'( and since you’re there, you shouldn’t miss the chance to try!
