Kedai Kopi 168 @ Sekinchan
After we left TK Coconut Farm Ville, we continued our journey to Sekinchan for lunch.
Since it was already late afternoon circa 2.30pm, we didn’t have much choices because most of the restaurants close at 3.00pm and Kedai Kopi 168 was one of the better lunch options with good rating on Google Review.
Occupied 2 shophouses with both indoor and al-fresco dining. The restaurant with a typical Kopitiam setting was rather shabby, furnished with basic plastic chairs and round tables. Although indoor dining space was equipped with ceiling fans, we still felt a bit warm, most probably we were seated at the further end of the restaurant. Despite the non peak hour for lunch, the restaurant was still brimming with robust lunch crowd.
Steamed Grouper Fish Head (RM77.00 – charged according to the weight)
This is Kedai Kopi 168’s signature dish which reminded me of the one I had in Sitiawan. That was my first time trying steamed fish head with such cooking style and it really stole thunder.
It’s definitely a large fish head for three of us, topped with abundance of raw sliced onions, julliened ginger, fried onion and a few halved limes. As expected, for a big fish like this, the flesh won’t be as soft but it’s decently tender and meaty. The sauce with addition of several squeezes of lime juice was delicious with refreshing citrus tang.
Chili Prawns (RM20.00)
This is a famous signature dish in Sekinchan, just like the Gohtong Jaya’s crispy deep fried pork belly. The diced prawns are stir fried with flavourful chili paste sauce, further perfumed by curry leaves. The dish wasn’t too spicy (even Sam could handle it) and the gentle chili heat brilliantly nuanced it’s addictive. Goes well with white rice.
Stir Fried Vegetables (RM6.00)
Very princely portion I would say. v(T▽T)
Verdict: Food was above average and very reasonably priced. My only qualm would be the warm dining environment.

The three dishes would be something I would enjoy. But my family is not so adventurous to go all the way to Sekinchan, so I can only enjoy your experience from reading your posts and looking at your photos!
PH, sometimes plan a short road trip like this would be added more excitement to our boring daily life. 🙂
I need that chili prawn pls!
KY, it’s good!
If you didn’t mention that grouper fish head was steamed, I would have thought it was fried…especially with the toppings of chillies, raw onions and lime (like Thai-style). I would enjoy all 3 dishes. ^_~
Kris, the toppings are similar with Thai style but the flavour is totally different, you should try this if you have chance.
I always enjoyed going to eat at Sekinchan as their dishes are always fresh and cheap. However, I always dreaded driving back as I was often too full, tired and sleepy after a full day there. The other passengers would be snoring away in my car. 😂😂😂😂
TM, as a passenger I always try my best to keep myself awake to accompany the driver because I know driving alone (without someone to talk to) would be very boring….. 🙁
