One of the dilemma of traveling overseas is always the choice of accommodation. The good things about Bangkok is that you will be spoilt for choices from downright spartan to boutique to luxurious hotel.
Since this is a family cum shopping trip, I have shortlisted Amari Watergate Bangkok and Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel. Both hotels with great location in the heart of the shopping area of Pratunam neighborhood with not much difference in room rates and most importantly both have good ratings at TripAdvisors. However, Amari Watergate has slight advantage as it has huge swimming pool which is a MUST for little Sam~ LOL
Amari Watergate Bangkok, strategically located opposite the shopping heaven of Platinum Mall which is definitely an ideal stay for shopaholic like me. There are clothes and food vendors right outside the hotel and the infamous Pratunam wholesale market is just a stone thrown away. The famous Sab X2 Wonton Mee is also within walking distance.

After an obligatory taxi ride from the Don Mueang Airport at around 400 Baht, we were welcomed graciously by hotel staffs. Check-in was a breeze affair and our luggagea were well taken care of by the attentive concierge. Throughout our 3d2n stay, we were greeted with huge smile from every staff. Sam even got a complimentary Amari teddy bear from the customer service.

The lobby is spacious, minimalist in decor with earth tone theme and warm lighting.

Check in counters

Concierge desk, all staff were very helpful and always welcome us in smiley face.

Relaxing traditional Thai music performance at the lobby every evening.

Our Deluxe room is quite spacious which adopted a simple but soothing earthy tone. The twin single beds (requested for a double bed but unfortunately not available) have plush mattress and down pillows that are comfortable enough for a good night’s rest.

Fully carpeted flooring, day-bed and coffee table with welcome fruits platter.

Working desk, large flat screen TV and DVD player.

Mini bar and coffee and tea making facilities.

Safe deposit box and complimentary drinking water.

Bathrobes, iron & board as well as indoor slippers.

The feature that I like the most at this decadent bathroom is “his and her” washing basin area so hubby and I will have respective private corner, for his to dirty up and for mine to clutter up with my facial stuffs.

A deep and clean bath tub.

Separated hand shower and WC.

Basic amenities such as body wash, shampoo, body lotion, sewing kit and etc.

Another 2 complimentary bottled water in the bathroom.
We managed to do a fast check at the pool located at 8th floor on the first day.

It is definitely a huge swimming pool for both adults and kids. The pool is well maintained and I adore the lush greenery surrounding.

There are many deckchairs provided at the pool side, best for people like me to just laze there and enjoy the comfortable morning sun.

Both father and daughter enjoyed the pool time before the hectic shopping schedule. Hehe ^___^

There is also a gym and SPA and the same floor.

Verdict: The room rate for RM 350.00+ per night is definitely worth paying for! From the warm hospitality to the top notch room condition, we truly enjoyed every moment here. The location of the hotel is heaven for shopaholics alike. The only downside is the lengthy walk (over 20 minutes) to the nearest BTS stations (Siam, Ratchathewi & Chit Lom) which is a tiring walk for a young child.

Wow…that’s nice! If I travel with my kids, I would not do any shopping because they do not have the patience to wait. They prefer dip in the pool as long as they can.
Sam didn’t shopping with me too, she stayed with her papa either go for coffee or massage 😛
No 鸳鸯戏水 at deep clean bath tub? … lol
The two hotels you mentioned earlier are always on my list to stay when in Bangkok but because of budget constraint, I opted for others. Maybe next time I should try stay at least one night cause I love going Bangkok over and over again.
Accommodation always one of my concern when traveling, also it’s not convenient to stay at budget hotel hen I travel with my kid 😛
very comfortable-looking place to stay! and the family definitely seems to be loving the beautiful pool 😀
Yes, Sam n hubby enjoyed the pool but blame the mommy who spent too much time on shopping and they only went to the pool once 😛
