Checkmate & Ferris Wheel Ride @ Asiatique, Bangkok
We went to Asiatique on our first night at Bangkok. We alighted at station BTS Saphan Taksin and took free shuttle service at Sathon Pier.
Asiatique is a large open-air mall situated in the former docks of the East Asiatic Company, and faces the Chao Phraya River. It successfully combined two of the most popular shopping experiences in the city: a night bazaar and a mall with over 1,500 boutiques and 40 restaurants housed under a huge replica warehouse complex.

Scenery along the river during the journey and it only takes ten minutes. Boat shuttle service runs every 15 minutes and the last departure time from Sathorn pier is 11:15PM.
There are plenty of international dining options at Asiatique ranging from Japanese, to Italien, Korean, American, Thai and Chinese. There is also an huge outdoor food court as well. We strolled around the place and decided to settled our late dinner at Checkmate.

A restaurant cum bar with outstanding black-and-white checkered wallpaper. The main room is moodily lit with a sizable bar displaying a solid array of liquor to one side. Furnished with sofas and low dining tables facing a stage in the middle with live band playing every evening. There are also outdoor seats if you’re hankering for a little breeze off the river.

Spicy Shrimp and Chinese Kale Salad (180 Baht)
A colourful Thai style salad with fresh poached prawns, cherry tomatoes, blanched Kailan, raw onions and deep fried salted fish served with appetizing citrus-ty dressing. Further enhanced the aroma was the sprinkles of dried squid floss.

Grilled Chicken with Massamun Sauce and Potato Puree (280 Baht)
Served with robust Massamun sauce richly infused with herbs and spices, the grilled chicken was tender and delicious. Spiciness was mild, we like the potato puree underneath which was well executed with velvety creamy texture.

Kurobuta Pork with Holy Basil (180 Baht)

Heavily scented with garlic and Holy basil, the highly prized Kurobuta pork was fabulously tender. I must admit I don’t like garlic but I gladly polished this off effortlessly, the sauce went really well with the white rice.

Spaghetti Carbonara (220 Baht)
Luscious and creamy carbonara laden with ham and crispy bacon for Sam.
Verdict: Food wise, we were satiated with what we’ve ordered. Service was ok, but the place can be quite noisy after the live band start performing.

Thanks for sharing so many lovely photos of this happening place. I grew up in Thailand when I was younger but there are too many places I have yet to visit… ***shy***
Most trips Thailand were to attend weddings, funerals or visit friends & relatives who would never bring me to touristy places.
What face cream your hubby uses? He looks younger and younger!
It not surprise that there are many places you never been as Thailand has so many changes throughout the years and my every Bangkok trips gave me surprises.
PS: My hubby didn’t use any skin care and even myself very jealous his skin condition because I need to use tons of skin care to maintain my skin condition =.=”
