Frozen Ready Meal by lanrenyiding 懒人一丁

I normally cook for our family’s weeknights dinner because I always prefer home cooked food which I can decide how my food will be prepared as well as control the food hygiene and safety. If you’re a weight-watcher like me, preparing food at home allows you to control the number of calories that you eat too. But…… there’s always time when I want to cut down the “stress” of having to figure out what to make for dinner every night, frozen ready meal comes as rescue! This type of food enables me to have an entire meal ready without requiring me to set aside much time. Like on-the-go snacks and single serving containers, frozen food fits millennials desires for fast and easy eating – be it a midnight bite or a quick lunch.

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the demands of frozen food have been increasing because people wanted to stay safe at home and reduce the number of times they visited shops.

I was introduced to lanrenyiding 懒人一丁 by my friend when we once had our gossip session and groused about the never ending house chores. So I decided to get several dishes that my friend recommended me which she has been repurchasing for a few times.

Their ordering website with dishes are sorted into 5 categories – Fried Rice, Chicken, Pork, Seafood and Lamb. Each dish comes with cooking and storing instructions.

These were what I got for my first order – Salted Egg Fried Rice (RM12.00), Curry Chicken with Potatoes (RM17.00), Salted Chicken Whole Drumstick (RM12.00), Sour & Spicy Pork Ribs (RM26.00) and Sambal Sotong (RM16.00).

As I don’t use a microwave at home, I transferred out the contents of the meal (without thawing) onto a plate and then steamed on high heat for 15 minutes.

Salted Chicken Whole Drumstick (for 1 pax-RM12.00) & Sambal Sotong (RM16.00)

A simple weeknight dinner with two dishes from lanrenyiding which can satisfy our family’s taste bud – Salted Chicken Whole Drumstick for Sam and Sambal Sotong for hubby and I. The flavours and texture of both dishes were well executed despite they are frozen meal. The spiciness of the Sambal Sotong was adequate and I would have appreciated a bit more sauce for this dish. The marination of the Salted Chicken was spot on as well, not too salty with hint of herbal note.

Curry Chicken with Potatoes (for 2 pax-RM17.00)

I always have frozen Roti Pratha or Scallion Pancake in my freezer and this was one of my quick weekend breakfast with Scallion Pancakes and Curry Chicken. Portion wise, there were at least 8-9 pieces of chicken chunks and a few pieces of soft potatoes. The curry gravy was more to Chinese style which was more “lemak”.

Sour & Spicy Pork Ribs (for 2 pax-RM26.00)

Braised till tender pork ribs paired with pineapple slices, drenched in appetizing and tangy sour and spicy gravy.

Salted Egg Fried Rice (for 1 pax-RM12.00)

This fried rice was rather mediocre, but fine and convenient as quick lunch or dinner nonetheless.

♥Verdict: I like their dishes are very well flavoured with robust taste that most of the Malaysian taste buds are fond of.

  • This would be good if we’re still under lockdown. Post pandemic, I want to eat fresh food….especially since their prices are quite similar to dine-in prices. The sweet & sour pork ribs look the best but the portion looks rather small for the price! >_< P/S: I'm assuming these were made for the Chinese speaking market coz if me (or PH) were to get them, we wouldn't even know what we'd be opening since we don't understand Chinese….lol.

    • Kris, of course freshly prepared from the restaurant during dine in is the best but there’s always time when you don’t feel like going out, these frozen ready meal certainly your saviour!
Understand your concern as my hubby doesn’t read Chinese too, hehe 😛

  • I must say that the food looks pretty good and if you did not mention that these were reheated from frozen, I would think that you cooked them yourself LOL! I visited the website and their selection is not bad. As Kris pointed out, the boxes have no English label so we “buta huruf” people won’t know what is in the box hah..hah… It might be good if they could label the English name of the dishes on the box. I might give it a try!

    • PH, I agree and understand your concern on the labeling, maybe I can give suggestion on my next order (provided that their website has this function) 😛
I’m quite surprised by the food quality too when I tried them.
