Tai Zi Heen ~ Taiwanese Food Promotion

I just came back from Taiwan not long ago & what impress me most from this trip was their very local Taiwanese food. (OK I admit I love shopping there also :P) I will never miss a chance to savor Taiwanese cuisine so when an invitation was thrown to me to sample some of the food showcasing in the latest Taiwanese Food Promotion at Tai Zi Heen, Prince Hotel  & Residence Kuala Lumpur I say “YES” immediately & really look forward to it.

A special guest from Taipei Garden Hotel; Executive Chef Wang is here too to amaze patrons with his delectable dishes of contemporary Taiwanese delicacies. He is known for his expertise in creating dishes that preserves the original essence of Taiwan traditions.

Waitress in traditional costume of one of the Taiwanese aborigines welcomed us at the enterence of the restaurant.

Buntings promoting Taiwan Tourism.

Chinese Tea Culture

Variety of Taiwanese Teas.

Pan-fried Egg Omelet with Three-month Dried Daikon Radish古味菜脯蛋

A very homey feel dish, I can finish my rice or plain porridge with this, ONLY this! The thick omelet with chopped dried daikon radish was such an immaculate combination, both enhanced each other really well no matter in textures & flavors.

Poached Squid with Five-spice Sauce 五味软丝

Shark’s Fin Soup with Seafood and Vegetables 兰阳西鲁锅

All the goodness like mushrooms, clams, squids, fish cakes, beancurd sheet and vegetables brimming in this soup rendering the multitude of flavors. A brilliant tummy warmer indeed for recently gloomy weather.

Wok-fried Shark’s Fin with Egg 桂花炒鱼翅

I didn’t eat this but according to my companion the egg was fried to fragrant and had a good bite from all others ingredients like green bamboo shoot, vegetables & fish cake.

Traditional Three Cup Chicken 九层三杯鸡

Wonder why this dish is named “Three Cups”? A cup of soy sauce + a cup of black sesame oil+ a cup of rice wine are the main ingredients to prepare it, hence the name. The tender chicken meat absorbed the flavor from the sauce, it’s very tantalizing indeed but the basil leaves make me scowling =.=”.

Steamed Glutinous Rice Topped with Crab Meat 肥蟹蒸米糕

The huge & meaty crab in inviting orangey  hue sitting on bed of steamed glutinous rice. The firm crab meat with subtle hint of natural sweetness was lip smacking.

Crab shell full with roes!

Look what I got? The big & meaty claw!

As for the dessert we were presented with a few traditional Taiwanese desserts.

Pineapple Cake 凤梨酥

The national dessert of Taiwan & I believe this is a must-buy souvenir for those who go to Taiwan.

Almost melt-in-your mouth rich shortbread crust with sticky & aromatic pineapple filling.

Beef Tongue Cake & Sun Cake 牛舌饼 & 太阳饼

Beef Tongue Cake 牛舌饼

Origin from Lugang 鹿港

Don’t be frighten by its name like my friend 😛 There is no beef tongue in it and it’s actually tongue shaped pastry with malt sugar filling. The skin was a bit too chewy for me but I enjoyed the sweet malt sugar filling.

Sun Cake 太阳饼

Origin from TaiChung 台中

Brittle & flaky pastry with malt sugar filling.
