Calabrese Cafe & Bistro @ Desa Aman Puri, Kepong
Update: Just informed by a friend that this cafe has been closed down last year 🙁
Lesson learnt: Don’t drag too long to post ~>_<~
I feel lucky as a Kepong resident where I can find numerous of eateries and cafes offer different types of cuisines within the vicinity. From the affordable hawker food to the more high scale Western cuisine restaurant, one will never go hungry here 😛 However everything has its good and bad sides. Yes, we are blessed with varieties of food and this also means that we are spoilt for choice too. “What to eat?” is the most common question whenever we need to dine out. >_<“
So we were again caught loitering around my neighbourhood commercial area of Desa Aman Puri. Choices are aplenty here, Chinese dai chow, steamboat, Bak Kut Teh and many more but I thought hubby was in mood for some ribs, pork ribs to be exact.
Calabrese Cafe & Bistro, occupied the corner shoplot same row with Xin Xin Kee Bak Kut Teh offers affordable European fare. The place was rather vacant on a weekday night. Dressed in vibrant orange walls with illumination comes from the hanging lights to provide pale yellow hues. Furniture are arranged neatly within the spacious dining area, nothing too fancy on the decoration but comfortable enough.
Carbonara Ham Rigatoni (RM 18.90+)
The rigatoni was tossed in light cream sauce which is fairly well-seasoned and easy to the palate. Accompanied with generous amount of chicken ham and sprinkled of herbs that added more fragrance to the overall pasta.
Signature Pork Ribs (RM 39.90+ / set)
The set came with a drink, soup of the day and dessert, totally a rock-bottom deal!
A rather sizable serving for individual serving. It was a tender slab of pork ribs, gleaming in a deep mahogany colour and basted with glistening sweet and sticky sauce. The ribs were almost in full lean meat but not dry or coarse like I would expected to be. Also served a side were hill of French fries and coleslaw.
Now you see it, now you don’t! We polished it off effortlessly in a jiffy.
Ice Lemon Tea
Soup of the Day
We had potato chicken soup that day which was in right consistency and creamy. I like the tiny chunks potatoes hiding within that added more texture to the broth.
Dessert
Both panna cotta drizzled with mango sauce and chocolate moist cake were mediocre.
Verdict: Food and portion wise, flavors is well calibrated and quite wallet-friendly. Revisit is predictable since it’s just a thrown away from my house 😛
