Chooi Yue Dim Sum 翠月楼港式点心 @ Ipoh
This visit was on last year December.
We stopped by at Ipoh for breakfast before we continued our journey to Penang. Instead of the popular Dim Sum restaurants like THIS and THIS, we opted for Chooi Yue Dim Sum that we never tried before.
Located at commercial area of Ipoh Garden South (Taman Ipoh Selatan), this scene of the long queue snaked along the corridor at the entrance of restaurant was not something I expected on a weekday.
Chooi Yue Dim Sum was brimming with a robust lunch crowd with a mixture of locals and tourists (judging from the car number plates that parking along the streets), even on a Tuesday morning. The crowd can only means one thing, good food and value for money, I assumed?
The spacious dining area (3 shoplot) was cramped with simple marble top tables and wooden chairs. Nothing much on the interior, simple and fuss-free.
The takeaway counter.
The menu was rather extensive with more than 60 choices of assorted Dim Sum, ranging from the usual meat/prawn dumplings, variety of baos (buns), porridge, Cheong Fun (steamed rice rolls), fried stuffs, pastries, fried fish noodles, fried Cheong Fun and even a few Yong Tau Foo items (stuffed chili, bitter guard & brinjal).
Siew Mai (RM5.80)
Scallop Shrimp Dumpling (RM6.80)
Char Siew Bun (RM5.00/2pcs)
Century Egg & Minced Pork Porridge (RM4.40)
Steamed Rice Noodle with Shrimp You Tiao (RM7.00)
Steamed Glutinous Rice (RM5.20)
Pork Dumpling with Spicy Sauce (RM6.00)
The above food was definitely a bit too greedy for 3 of us, so we ended up cannot finish them and had to “tapao” (takeaway) the Char Siew buns. 😛
♥Verdict: We were pleased with the food quality and I especially enjoyed the Scallop Har Gao with fresh, bouncy prawns and the addition of celery imparted a bold flavour to it. Steamed Rice Noodle with Shrimp You Tiao also another favourite of mine here. Crunchy You Tiao and shrimps were wrapped with silky smooth rice roll, served with soy sauce, a dish that scored well in terms of flavour and texture.
Evidently seen from the the long queue and the crowd that thronged the place, this place proved to be another popular Dim Sum restaurant except those at Ipoh Dim Sum street. Waiting is inevitable, especially on weekends and the limitation on the seating capacity during NRP (National Recovery Plan).

Wow, they put a lot of pepper in your porridge….or was that your own doing? Lol. The steamed rice noodle also looked the most enticing to me. Ai, 6 types of dim sum for 3 people is not too much or too greedy leh! It’s like 2 dim sum per person only wor…hehe! 😉
Kris, we really didn’t notice about the pepper, no complaint from Sam who had it though, haha!
We had 7 types of Dim Sum lah, we are quite a small eater and basically one bowl of porridge is more than enough for Sam and she will only “helps” us eat 1 or 2 biji Dim Sum after she finished her porridge. =.=”
hah..hah..like Kris, the abundance of pepper in the porridge caught my eye! You all must be small eaters because it won’t be enough if I dined with my partner or my brother. LOL!
Ph, I only can say we are small eater and the Loh Mai Gai & porridge are quite a filling dish.
I too can’t wait to go to Ipoh again!
KY, really~~~ 🙁
I recently visited, and it was an amazing experience! The dim sum was fresh, delicious, and offered a wide variety of choices. The service was prompt and friendly, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The ambiance was cozy and perfect for a relaxing meal. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic and tasty dim sum in Ipoh! However, the price is slightly expensive compared to others.
Takeshi, glad to know that you enjoyed the food here. Please drop by my blog for more food adventures!
